The Imaging Specialist IV (Nuclear Medicine Specialist) independently performs specialized nuclear medicine procedures to support the diagnosis and treatment of patients at Hilo Benioff Medical Center. This position operates nuclear medicine equipment, prepares and administers radiopharmaceuticals, maintains radiation safety and quality control standards, and ensures accurate documentation in accordance with physician orders, regulatory requirements, and department protocols.
Key Responsibilities- Perform nuclear medicine examinations and procedures using specialized imaging equipment to detect, measure, and visualize the distribution of radioactivity for diagnostic and treatment purposes.
- Prepare, calculate, and administer radiopharmaceuticals in accordance with physician orders, facility procedures, and applicable radiation safety requirements.
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain nuclear medicine equipment, including scintillation detection equipment, scanners, and gamma cameras, and perform quality assurance activities.
- Monitor radioactive materials, supplies, and contaminated items; maintain required records for the receipt, use, storage, and disposal of radioactive materials in accordance with applicable regulations.
- Provide patient-centered care by explaining procedures, addressing patient concerns, ensuring appropriate positioning and safety, monitoring for adverse reactions, and providing age-specific care.
- Maintain accurate and timely patient, diagnostic, treatment, quality assurance, and equipment documentation, utilizing the Electronic Medical Record and Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS); cross-train and perform duties in other qualified imaging modalities as needed.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Radiologic Technology from a school recognized by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
- Experience: One and one-half (1½) years of progressively responsible imaging technologist/specialist experience demonstrating thorough knowledge of imaging procedures and techniques.

One (1) year of progressively responsible professional experience as a Nuclear Medicine Specialist. - Certification: Current ARRT (N) or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) certification. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within six months of employment.
- Licensure: Current license to practice as a certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist in the State of Hawaii.
- Additional Requirements: Must demonstrate knowledge of nuclear medicine procedures, radiation safety and protection, nuclear medicine equipment, human anatomy and physiology, radiopharmacology, and applicable safety regulations. Must be able to work independently and demonstrate sound judgment, professionalism, effective communication, and a commitment to patient-centered care.
