As a Health Information Technician, you will play a vital role in ensuring accurate, secure, and timely access to patient information—supporting providers, patients, and the broader healthcare system. Key Responsibilities- Review medical records for completeness and accuracy, ensuring compliance with established standards and regulatory requirements
- Process and fulfill requests for release of patient information, ensuring proper authorization and adherence to privacy laws (HIPAA and applicable state/federal regulations)
- Provide customer service to patients, providers, attorneys, and agencies requesting medical records, including in-person and phone interactions
- Prepare records for legal proceedings, including subpoenas and court cases, and assist with documentation or testimony as needed
- Maintain accurate tracking and documentation of all record requests and correspondence within hospital systems
- Assist with vital statistics processes, including preparing and submitting birth certificates and related documentation
To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experiences may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experience is credited based on a 40-hour workweek.
Education
:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Medical Records
Experience:
Two (2) years experience in a health information management department of a hospital or allied medical care facility, or in an allied health or medical program (e.g., nursing unit, admissions dept., clinic, etc.), which included such duties as filing medical records, posting data onto medical records, cross-indexing data, compiling numerical data from medical records or reports, typing/transcribing medical reports, and work of a comparable nature.
