Job Summary

Manages the Housekeeping Department at NEXCOM Hospitality Group (NHG) properties with 150 rooms or more. Provides onsite management and administration of the housekeeping department and laundry/delivery operations for one or more locations. Ensures guests are provided adequate and timely housekeeping services and laundry operations run efficiently.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Establish and ensure NHG standards, policies and procedures regarding the housekeeping and laundry departments are effective and maintained.
  • Supervise Housekeeping and Laundry Department associates. Organize and direct departmental training programs and maintain training records for each associate. Resolve personnel problems, hire new associates and ensure adequate staffing. Evaluate associates’ performance and quality of work, recommend awards and/or corrective disciplinary actions, monitor productivity and motivate staff to improve performance.
  • Develop a professional housekeeping and laundry staff to ensure adequate guest service.
  • Conduct written daily guest room, laundry, and facility inspections, preparing reports as needed. Inspect areas include walls, doors, carpets, FF&E, plumbing, HVAC systems and laundry equipment. Take corrective action on all housekeeping and laundry discrepancies and report other discrepancies to the appropriate department for action.
  • Ensure all equipment is properly maintained, stored and accounted for. Place maintenance calls for repairs as required within procurement guidelines.
  • Inspect and evaluate the physical condition of NHG guest rooms and public spaces for preventative maintenance and required repairs, painting, and furnishings to maintain NHG standards. Originates work orders for repairs to guest rooms or public areas and may review them with the maintenance department supervisor and/or the NHG GM.
  • Verify condition and possible unauthorized occupancy of vacant rooms, notify the NHG GM of any discrepancies.
  • Schedule special deep cleaning programs as required.
  • Maintain inventory of associates’ uniforms, prepare and verify all departmental payroll information. Ensure all leave requests are in writing and approve or disapprove in a timely manner.
  • Possess a welcoming manner and positive attitude. Demonstrate effective communication skills when responding to guest requests and inquiries regarding housekeeping operations/services. Refer unusual problems/requests to the NHG General Manager (GM) for further action.
  • Maintain regular contact with the front office for check‑outs through the use of a Property Management System (PMS).
  • Participate in the development of annual budget and planned improvements. Manage departmental budget, monitor monthly payroll and supply expenses, maintain inventory of guest, housekeeping and laundry supplies and linens, place orders for necessary supplies and equipment, record arrival of received goods, complete invoices and submit to the NHG GM for processing. Responsible for bulk items issued from the storeroom. Coordinate, supervise and complete quarterly linen inventory as well as periodic unannounced supply inventories to detect missing inventory.
  • Ensure NHG operating procedures are in compliance with all state and federal regulations with regard to OSHA, NAVOSH and NHG regulations.
  • Plan and carry out assignments with minimal supervision. Coordinate with other associates assigned to NHG as required to carry out responsibilities and advise supervisor of progress or problem areas.
  • Perform cleaning and laundry duties on an “as needed” basis to cover staff shortages or other unanticipated occurrences.
  • Implement all safety, fire prevention, MSDS and environmental/industrial hygiene requirements.
