Who we areThe Bureau of Conveyances (BOC) maintains an accurate, timely, and permanent record system for title to real property. The BOC examines, records, indexes, and digitizes nearly 300,000 Regular System and Land Court documents and maps annually; issues Land Court Certificates of Title; certifies copies of matters of record; and researches Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) requests. Hawaii has a single statewide recording system.
With two systems of recording in Hawaii, the Conveyancing Supervisor (also known as “Land Court Branch Chief”) manages the Land Court Recording Branch which is responsible for all Land Court recordings and the proper updating of all Land Court certificates. The Branch Chief oversees both the Receiving Section, which handles all intake and recordation of documents submitted from customers, and the Review Section, which handles all post-recording tasks in accordance with Hawaii Revised Statute (HRS) 501 and 502 and their corresponding Hawaii Administrative Rules (HAR).
We seek a Land Court Branch Chief to lead our Branch and provide necessary supervisory and customer service experiences critical to the Division’s operations.
As the Conveyancing Supervisor, you’ll- Plan, direct, and manage operations, and corroborate with the Registrar and Deputy Registrar of Conveyances on any escalation issues or changes to current processes and procedures such as with advancing technologies for the Branch.
- Work on tasks including title searching and reporting, title and escrow industry involvement, and legal documents involving property conveyances.
- Provide technical information and assistance to the public, attorneys, loan officers, escrow officers, and brokers on drafting and phrasing of legal documents and all matters relating to recording practices.
- Legal authorization to work: State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State to be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
- Education: Graduation from high school or equivalent. Excess experience may be substituted for education on a year‑for‑year basis.
- Experience: Six (6) years of progressively responsible work experience requiring knowledge of conveyancing laws, rules, and regulations; one (1) year of supervisory experience including planning, organizing, scheduling, directing, assigning, reviewing, advising, training, developing, and evaluating subordinates.
