Summary

PAINTER in the DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY. Work sites include Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard, Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, and Trident Refit Facility Bangor.

Applicants will only be considered for positions within their own UIC. For example:

Salary and Locations

Salary: $37.29 to $45.79 per hour.

Pay scale: WG 10.

Responsibilities
  • You will support the overhaul and repair of U.S. Naval vessels through surface preparation and application of high performance preservation coating, for nuclear and non-nuclear naval vessels and equipment.
  • You will enhance the structural integrity of the vessel, significantly reducing system failures or the need for ship repair and maintenance.
  • You will use drawings, specifications, technical manuals, engineering standards, and manufacturers’ instructions to identify location and assemble blast equipment in dry-docks, piers and on vessels.
  • You will ascertain type and method for surface preparation, considering variables such as current surface profile; surface profile requirements; intended coating application; cleanliness; tolerances; and metal loss.
  • You will use hand or mechanical means, such as scaling, sanding, scraping, chemical removal, and washing of metal, wood, and plastic surfaces for additional preparation to obtain required profiles.
  • You will use deck blast machines to remove coatings and oxide from decks of ships.
  • You will apply prior knowledge of materials for application on various surfaces including critical coated areas.
Requirements
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
  • New employees to the Department of the Navy must pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), retired military members may be appointed within 180 days following retirement.
  • Male born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • Must successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • Must obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance before entrance on duty.
  • Must wear personal protective equipment (helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators, safety shoes) continuously during the work shift.
  • Work performed in areas with potentially harmful physical and chemical agents; must participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • May require travel to CONUS and OCONUS, including remote or isolated sites; must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods.
  • May require a pre-employment drug test; failure to pass may result in job offer rescission.
  • May require exposure to high noise levels.
  • May be required to work uncommon tours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Qualifications

Applicants must demonstrate, through experience and training, the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties at the required level. Qualification emphasis is on quality of experience, not length of time.
