American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a PACU position in Hawaii, requiring a minimum of 2 years of critical care experience and an active Hawaii RN license by the start of the assignment.

Responsibilities
  • Hospital-based Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) setting
  • Provides care across pre-op, Phase I, and Phase II recovery
  • Patient population includes post-surgical patients requiring close monitoring for anesthesia recovery, incision site assessment, body temperature regulation, and complication management
  • Shifts vary between 8, 10, and 12 hours and may include days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Floating between the ASU and PACU units is required
  • On-call required 0–3 times per month, including 8-hour night call and 24-hour weekend/holiday call
  • Equipment used includes Meditech, PCA Pumps, Pyxis, Braun IV Pumps, Cryocuff, SCDs, Bair PAWS Warmers, HP Monitors, and Phillips Monitors
  • Meditech is the EMR used in this unit
  • All travelers must report to Employee Health 48–72 hours prior to the start of the assignment; this appointment takes place at the Hilo Employee Health office and is mandatory — plan to arrive in Hawaii the Thursday before a Monday start date to attend the Friday morning appointment
  • Flu vaccination may be administered during the Employee Health clearance appointment if needed
  • Specialty certifications such as NIHSS and TNCC are preferred and may be required
  • Schedule is variable with no guaranteed hours or shift preference
  • Experience in critical care and surgical nursing is a strong plus for this role
Requirements
  • Active Hawaii RN license required by the start of the assignment; candidates without one must apply upon acceptance of offer
  • Current AHA certifications required: BLS/BCLS, ACLS, and PALS
  • Minimum 2 years of PACU experience required; 2+ years of critical care RN experience in an ER or ICU in a hospital setting may be accepted as a substitute
  • Strong critical care assessment skills, including monitoring post-anesthesia recovery indicators such as incision sites, body temperature, and patient stability
  • Proof of flu vaccination or a facility-approved medical or religious exemption required prior to contract start
