Job Title: Post Anesthesia Care Unit Registered Nurse (PACU RN) – Variable Shifts

Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced PACU Registered Nurse (PACU RN) for a contract assignment providing care to patients in pre-operative, Phase I, and Phase II recovery. The ideal candidate has strong critical care skills, excellent assessment abilities, and experience monitoring patients following surgical procedures.

Assignment Details:

• Contract duration: 26 weeks
• Schedule:
  
  Variable shifts (8, 10, or 12 hours) — Days, Evenings, Nights, Weekends, and Holidays
• Setting: PACU / Ambulatory Surgery Unit (ASU)
• No guarantee of hours or shift preference
• On-call requirement:
  Approximately 0–3 times per month (night and weekend/holiday call)
• EMR: EPIC
• Holiday coverage required

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide pre-operative and post-anesthesia care (Phase I & II recovery)
• Perform patient assessments and monitor airway, vital signs, incision sites, and recovery status
• Identify complications and intervene appropriately
• Administer medications and manage pain control
• Collaborate with anesthesia providers, surgeons, and interdisciplinary teams
• Maintain accurate documentation in the electronic medical record
• Educate patients and families on recovery and discharge instructions

Equipment / Systems Used:

• Patient monitoring systems
• IV infusion pumps and PCA pumps
• Medication dispensing systems
• Compression devices, warming devices, and specialty recovery equipment

Requirements:

• Active State RN license required by start of assignment (must apply upon offer if not currently active)
• Minimum 2 years of PACU experience preferred
• Critical care RN experience (ER or ICU) may be accepted in place of PACU experience
• Ability to work variable shifts including weekends, holidays, and on-call

Required Certifications:

• Basic Life Support (BLS/BCLS)
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

Recommended / Preferred Certifications:

• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Trauma certification (e.g., TNCC)

Additional Requirements:

• Proof of flu vaccination or approved exemption prior to contract start (may be completed during employee health clearance)
• Must complete required onboarding and employee health appointment prior to start
