Job Description

Registered Nurse (RN) position within a long‑term care facility. The role focuses on nursing care delivery, unit administration, personnel management, quality assurance, infection control, safety, resident rights, and staff development.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse license in good standing and currently licenced by the state.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Proficient reading and writing skills in a legible and understandable manner.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English.
  • Previous experience in a hospital, long‑term care facility, or other healthcare environment.
  • Knowledge of general, rehabilitative, and restorative nursing practices plus the regulations governing long‑term care.
  • Positive attitude toward the elderly.
Other Functions and Responsibilities
  • Attend and participate in committees and meetings in the absence of the Director of Nursing Services, and assist in policy development, medication management, and nursing service evaluation.
  • Communicate effectively with personnel and read/write in English.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining safety standards, isolation programs, and infection control procedures; ensure adherence and cleanliness of nursing areas.
  • Assist in creating, reviewing, and updating resident care plans; encourage family participation; monitor plan implementation and revise as needed.
  • Recommend equipment and supplies; monitor inventory; ensure proper use of equipment; assist in budgeting for equipment, supplies, and labor; submit reports to the Director of Nursing Services and Administrator.
Essential Job Functions Administrative Functions
  • Direct day‑to‑day operations of the Nursing Unit, develop policies, coordinate services, and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure nursing staff perform duties, maintain quality assurance, and assist in discharge procedures.
  • Participate in government inspections, report findings, and recommend improvements.
  • Accountable for all care delivered on the unit 24/7.
  • Orient new staff, conduct assessments, and provide in‑service training as needed.
  • Ensure accurate transcription of physician orders and follow‑through on lab work, imaging, and other orders.
  • Manage documentation such as nurse’s notes, flow sheets, and indicator logs.
  • Schedule CNA and Charge/Staff Nurse assignments across all tours.
  • Serve on the resident interdisciplinary care planning committee.
Nursing Care Functions
  • Inform staff of new admissions, prepare rooms, and attend to new residents.
  • Schedule daily rounds, monitor treatments and medications, and ensure proper documentation.
  • Maintain accurate physician record‑keeping and provide corrective actions when necessary.
  • Provide direct nursing care as required.
Personnel Functions
  • Recruit, interview, hire, counsel, evaluate, discipline, and terminate nursing staff; coordinate personnel actions with the Personnel Manager.
  • Schedule department work hours and delegate authority to supervising personnel.
  • Verify licensure, enforce standards, and interpret policies for staff, residents, families, and regulators.
  • Handle complaints and grievances in accordance with policies and laws.
Staff Development Functions
  • Plan and conduct orientation, training, and in‑service education; coordinate with other departments.
  • Maintain professional competence and license status through continuing education.
  • Encourage staff participation in external training and ensure completion of Hazardous Communication and Standard Precautions training.
Infection Control (or Preventionist) Functions (if designated)
  • Implement and review the facility’s infection prevention program.
  • Apply professional and regulatory guidelines for infection control.
  • Collect and analyze infection and antibiotic data to monitor trends.
  • Disseminate prevention information and oversee faculty training.
  • Consult with county and state health departments as needed.
  • Serve as a resource on infection prevention and monitor employee health.
Residents’ Rights
  • Protect resident confidentiality and privacy; treat residents with dignity and respect.
  • Ensure compliance with Resident’s Rights rules by nursing staff.
