Registered Professional Nurse
is an essential part of our team.
Hilo Benioff Medical Center in Hilo, Hawaii, is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to serve as Clinical Coordinator for the Progressive Care Unit (PCU). This leadership role supports the Nurse Manager in coordinating daily unit operations, supervising nursing and support staff, ensuring high-quality patient care, and serving as a clinical resource for patients, families, and the care team. The successful candidate will promote a patient-centered, culturally competent environment while supporting quality, safety, staff development, and operational excellence.
KeyJob Duties
- Coordinate and supervise daily PCU operations
, including staffing assignments, scheduling, resource utilization, equipment and supply management, and ensuring adequate staffing to meet patient care needs. - Provide clinical leadership and oversight as a charge nurse and subject matter expert, ensuring nursing care is consistent with established standards, policies, procedures, regulatory requirements, and evidence-based practices.
- Support staff management and development
, including orientation, competency assessments, performance evaluations, counseling, identification of educational needs, and implementation of staff development activities. - Promote quality, patient safety, and continuous improvement by monitoring clinical outcomes, identifying potential risks, supporting infection-control practices, participating in performance-improvement initiatives, and addressing deviations from established standards of care.
- Foster effective communication and collaboration among nurses, physicians, patients, families, and other members of the healthcare team while promoting excellent customer service and a respectful, culturally responsive patient-care environment.
- Assist with departmental operations and strategic initiatives
, including budget and cost-containment efforts, policy and procedure development, evaluation of new equipment and practices, hospital committees, and maintaining required clinical competencies and continuing education.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:To qualify, you must meet
all
of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experience is credited based on a 40-hour workweek.
EDUCATION
:
Graduated from an accredited school of nursing. While not required, graduation from an accredited nursing program with a Bachelor Degree is highly desirable.
Evidence of the appropriate training (e.g. official transcript or diploma) should be submitted with the application to be given credit for education. A legible photocopy will be accepted. However, HHSC reserves the right to request an official copy.
EXPERIENCE:One-half (1/2) year of professional nursing work experience, where the employee independently provided nursing care to patients in a clinic, hospital, or institution.
Demonstrated supervisory aptitude or potential, such as experience serving as a team or group leader, performing assignments involving supervisory responsibilities, completing supervisory training, or demonstrating supervisory capabilities through performance evaluations.
SELECTIVE CERTIFICATION:Of the required one-half (1/2) year of professional nursing work experience, one-half (1/2) year of professional nursing experience working in a cardiac, intensive, or progressive care unit/setting is required. The required experience must have been gained within the past two (2) years.
Possession of the required number of years of experience will not in itself be accepted as proof of qualification for a position. The applicant overall experience must have been of such scope and level of responsibility as to conclusively demonstrate that he/she has the ability to perform the duties of the position for which he/she is being considered.
CERTIFICATION:Basic Life Support (BLS) in Health Care Provider (adult, child and infant) is required one (1) month after employment. Advanced Life Support (ALS) is required within six months of employment or transfer into the unit and must be maintained.
LICENSURE:A valid
State of Hawaii as a Registered Nurseis required. Evidence of licensure is required with the application.
