Hilo, Hawaii, United States - Requires Hawaii license by start of assignment and successful facility health clearance
- Provide postoperative care in the PACU, monitoring airway, breathing, circulation, pain control, and nausea management; respond promptly to changes in patient status
- Assess and document patient recovery phases (Phase I and Phase II) and track indicators of stability or potential complications
- Monitor incisions, vital signs, temperature, and equipment function; verify proper line and device management (e.g., PCA Pumps, IV therapy equipment, monitors)
- Collaborate with anesthesia, surgical teams, and other perioperative staff; communicate patient status and discharge plans to the next care level
- Maintain accurate documentation in the medical record and ensure safe transitions of care; adhere to infection control and safety protocols
- Use unit equipment and systems (e.g., Meditech, Pyxis, Braun IV Pumps, SCDs, Cryocuff, Bair PAWS Warmers, HP/Phillips monitors) as part of standard PACU care
- Active Hawaii Registered Nurse license by start of assignment (or ability to obtain and apply upon acceptance); must have Hawaii license by assignment start
- Current certifications:
Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) from the American Heart Association - Experience:
2+ years as a critical care RN (ER or ICU) in a hospital setting; this experience may substitute for PACU nursing experience where applicable - Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) is recommended and may be required for some PACU travel assignments
- Other specialty certifications (e.g., NIHS, TNCC) are preferred and may be required for certain positions
- Proof of influenza vaccination or approved exemption required prior to contract start; flu vaccine can be administered during employee health clearance
- Ability to work in a PACU within a hospital setting; strong critical thinking and rapid assessment skills required
- Active professional license in the state of practice and ability to work as a PACU RN
