Postdoctoral Researcher in Tropical Fruit Genetics & Genomics

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented postdoctoral researcher to join our tropical fruit genomics team at USDA ARS Daniel K. Inouye U.S. Pacific Basin Agricultural Research Center located at Hilo, Hawaii. The successful candidate will contribute to genetic mapping and molecular characterization of disease‑resistance and fruit quality traits in tropical fruit species,

integrating experimental work with advanced genomic data analysis.

Required education and experience:
  • Ph.D. in plant genetics, plant genomics, plant biology, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in genomics, quantitative genetics, or molecular breeding.
  • Experience with advanced sequencing technologies and high‑throughput genotyping platforms.
  • Proficiency with bioinformatics tools and pipelines used in plant genomics research.
  • Experience in population genetic analysis and interpretation of genetic diversity.
  • Familiar with molecular biology techniques, including high-molecular-weight DNA extraction and sequencing library preparation.
  • Experience with marker–trait association approaches such as QTL mapping, GWAS, or linkage analysis.
  • Strong record of scientific publication and communication.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and conduct experiments to map genetic loci associated with disease resistance and other key traits in tropical fruit species.
  • Generate and analyze genotyping and sequencing datasets (e.g., GBS, WGS, targeted sequencing).
  • Perform linkage mapping, QTL analysis, GWAS, and candidate gene identification.
  • Integrate phenotypic and genotypic data to dissect trait architecture and resistance mechanisms.
  • Develop and optimize bioinformatics workflows for variant calling, genotype imputation, and association analysis.
  • Manage and curate large genomics datasets, ensuring data quality and reproducibility.
  • Prepare manuscripts for peer‑reviewed journals and present research findings at scientific conferences.
