The primary responsibility of a Pharmacy Assistant is to ensure customer satisfaction by accurately assisting the Pharmacists on duty with processing and filling prescriptions and neatly and accurately stocking the sales floor in a timely manner. A Pharmacy Assistant increases customer loyalty by assisting customers with courteous, pleasant, patient service and treatment.
JOB DESCRIPTION
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
You MUST perform the following duties regularly and up to company standards:
- Promptly, courteously and efficiently greet, thank, offer assistance, and meet the needs of all customers.
- Receive prescriptions and medical information from customers.
- Retrieve proper drugs from the shelves.
- Type, bill, count and package prescriptions.
- Charge and collect payment from customer using the cash register/computer.
- Properly price, rotate and stock merchandise in the correct locations in the pharmacy.
- Prepare, pack, label, price and display hot and cold food products (sandwiches, heated items, etc.).
- Refill and maintain the quantity and quality of products in showcases.
- Retrieve merchandise from storage areas, transport it to the sales floor, and display it neatly in correct locations.
- Keep shelves fronted (pull merchandise to the front shelves) and well stocked throughout the day, rotating and dusting items as needed. Remove outdated merchandise from shelves.
In order to provide the best possible service to our customers, the following duties are also required on an as-needed basis, during slow periods, or upon instruction by a senior clerk, supervisor, director or designated person-in-charge.
- Order merchandise as needed.
- Request signs as needed. Report price label errors to the POS department.
- Receive, verify, and invoice merchandise from vendors.
- Report damaged items and write up claims.
- Display appropriate signs for merchandise on sales floor
- Stock and refill supplies, including paper products.
- Break down and clean hot line displays and showcases.
- Clean and sanitize all areas that come in contact with food items.
- Answer incoming phone calls and assist customers as needed.
- Process invoices and file prescriptions.
- Properly price, stock, and merchandise items to correct locations on the sales floor.
- Inventory merchandise - process returns, check for outdated items, etc.
- Refill and maintain "robot" or other counting technology.
- Maintain and clean the department - dust, discard trash, etc.
- Count and balance till after each shift.
- Maintain cleanliness at the checkout and in the accountability rooms.
- Work at other locations as needed.
- Perform other duties as required or assigned.
All associates are required to provide our customers with World Class Service with a local touch.
- GREET all customers (be friendly, smile and make face-to-face eye contact).
- HELP all customers (listen and pay attention; be courteous; be knowledgeable about product location, services offered and store hours; offer alternatives if a product is out of stock; take the customer to the product, etc.).
- Personalize the customers shopping experience (make small talk, offer meal suggestions, explain current store promotions, etc.).
- THANK all customers (show appreciation and offer a parting comment).
- Continuously perform all duties in an air-conditioned building with a high volume of customers and co-workers.
- Seldom need to travel and work at other locations.
- Generally be available for work 7 days a week and holidays, between 6:00 am and 8:00 pm.
- Frequently use a telephone to communicate with fellow store associates, customers, sales representatives, other health providers and insurance companies; use pens, pencils, calculator, photo-copier, fax machine, scanner and other "office" equipment to process customer's prescription and invoices; use a computer and keyboard to enter and retrieve date, process prescriptions, type reports and documents, send and receive emails, do research or look up claim information;
use a spatula, counting tray and 'robot" or other automatic pill counter to count and fill customer's prescriptions; operate a computer/cash register (POS system) when charging and collecting payment from customers; use reusable plastic and /or paper bags to bag customer's groceries; use a coffee maker to brew coffee; use a microwave or food warmer to heat food products; use a sink to rinse or wash dishes.
- Occasionally use box cutters, ladders, stock wagons and hand trucks to stock and retrieve merchandise and supplies; operate a freight elevator, paper cutter and other office equipment.
- Seldom need to operate a company vehicle.
- MENTAL - Continuously exercise discretion and thoughtful judgment; pay attention to detail and be alert; remain cool, calm and relaxed in stressful situations.
