Duties SummaryThe Environmental Health Specialist performs professional work to protect and promote public health and the environment by ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations related to environmental health, environmental impact, and occupational health hazards. The role includes on‑the‑job training and participation in field investigations, inspections, and sample collection, as well as other related duties as assigned. Overtime may be required.
MinimumQualification Requirements
- Legal Authorization to Work
:
Citizens, nationals, or permanent residents of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment. - Prerequisite Knowledge
:
Basic principles and concepts of chemical, biological, or physical science; college‑level algebra; problem‑solving methods; research methods; and report writing. - Ability to
:
Apply scientific principles; understand and apply environmental/occupational health laws, rules, and regulations; conduct investigations and inspections; collect, analyze, and evaluate data; solve problems and make recommendations; perform mathematical calculations for data verification and report preparation; communicate clearly orally and in writing. - Education
:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four‑year college or university in chemistry, physics, biology, zoology, environmental science, or a closely related scientific field with at least three semester credit hours in college algebra or higher. - Driver's License
:
Valid driver’s license required for immediate vacancies. - Lift and Carry
:
Ability to lift and carry objects up to 40 pounds unassisted. - Substitutions allowed as described in the Minimum Qualification Requirements.
