Job Summary

The Security Shift Supervisor is a mission-critical leadership position responsible for managing daily operations and personnel in the Security Services division, ensuring a safe and secure environment for the BYUH and PCC communities. This role requires a strategic mindset, operational expertise, and high-level supervisory capabilities to oversee campus safety, incident response, compliance, and emergency preparedness

Primary Responsibilities Supervisory Leadership (65%)
  • Directly oversees hiring, training, mentoring, and evaluating part-time and student security personnel.
  • Provides operational guidance to ensure coverage across multiple high-profile locations.
  • Establishes performance benchmarks, shift protocols, and continuous training cycles.
  • Leads staff through complex emergency scenarios, de-escalation situations, and high-risk incidents.
  • Conducts quality control of reports, logs, and documentation to ensure legal and procedural accuracy.
  • Oversee timekeeping, scheduling, and administrative workflows in support of departmental operations.
Campus Security and Risk Response (25%)
  • Acts as on-scene supervisor or incident commander during emergencies, critical events, and campus threats.
  • Conducts proactive patrols, responds to alarms and emergencies, and provides field assessments.
  • Coordinates with police, EMS, and other external entities during joint responses or investigations.
  • Promotes a culture of compliance, safety, and awareness through public engagement and education.
  • Maintains readiness of vehicles, radios, and security systems; performs inspections and audits.
Special Events & Emergency Preparedness (10%)
  • Coordinates security coverage for major campus and PCC events, including graduation, devotionals, and cultural performances.
  • Leads logistical planning for crowd control, ingress/egress, and perimeter security.
  • Collaborates with university event teams and administration to ensure safe execution of events.
Minimum Qualification & Experience Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent:
    Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum 3-5 years in law enforcement, military police, or security management, including supervisory experience at the sergeant level or higher.
Certifications
  • State of Hawaii Guard Card (required)
  • Valid Hawaii Driver's License (required)
  • First Aid/CPR (within 90 days of hire)
  • Defensive Tactics Certification (preferred)
Skills
  • Strong working knowledge of local, state, and federal laws, including incident command systems and use-of-force regulations.
  • Expertise in managing physical and electronic security infrastructure (alarms, radios, surveillance, etc.).
  • Proven ability to lead, train, and evaluate a diverse team, including student employees.
  • Skilled in verbal de-escalation, critical thinking under pressure, and detailed report writing.
  • Culturally competent and sensitive to the unique spiritual and educational mission of BYU–Hawaii.

Approximate starting hourly rate:
22.00 - 24.00
