Field/Service Technician, Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Generator Technician Job Summary
This position involves troubleshooting, repairing, and performing routine engine maintenance such as oil changes, filter replacements, and spark plug service on generators.
Primary Job Functions- Diagnose and repair generators across all makes, including alternators, wiring harnesses, safety devices, shutdown switches, and battery systems.
- Adjust, modify, and repair engine and switch gear components for all makes and models of standby generators.
- Conduct start‑ups, preventative maintenance, service, and load‑bank tests.
- Maintain and repair automatic transfer switches, working on a variety of commercial and industrial customer sites.
- Repair, service, and maintain all makes and models of standby generators.
- Operate on common standby generator brands such as Cummins, Kohler, Generac, Briggs and Stratton.
- Perform administrative duties related to the role, including meeting all TJC requirements.
- Meet required certifications and maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Work alternate shifts as required to support the mission.
- Collaborate positively with service writers, foremen, parts department staff, and customers.
- High School diploma (required).
- 3–5 years of electronic or diesel engine repair experience preferred (minimum 3 years).
- Technical degree in generator or related field a plus.
- NAC/LAC certification required.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Compliance with all TJC requirements.
- Willingness to work alternate shifts.
- Physical ability to lift 50 lbs., squat, bend, stoop, kneel for short periods, climb a ladder, stand for long periods, and extend arms continuously.
- Ability to work in environments with heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, and chemicals with minimal safety hazards.
- Strong interpersonal skills to interface with service writers, foremen, parts department, and customers.
- Positive attitude and strong teamwork practices.
- Proficient in detailed troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance procedures on generators and associated equipment.
Up to 5% travel to customer sites.
