Job Title
Installs, repairs overhauls and maintains a variety of electrically driven pumps, electrical wiring systems, electric motors, valves and appurtenant equipment; and performs other related duties as required.
There is one (1) immediate permanent full-time vacancy with the Department of Parks and Recreation - Parks Maintenance Division in Hilo. The eligible list may be used for other permanent and temporary vacancies as they arise during the life of the list. Temporary appointment may lead to conversion to permanent appointment.
Examples of Duties- Installs conduits, transformers, traffic signals, pull boxes, plugs, convenience outlets, and switches.
- Rewires buildings.
- Installs, maintains and repairs pumps, motors, and various other types of electrical equipment and apparatus.
- Repairs and replaces broken or defective parts in motors, switches, and fixtures.
- Locates, test and repairs trouble in electrical circuits and equipment.
- Replaces fuses and incandescent and fluorescent lights.
- Plans electrical banks power circuits, blowers, generators and other related electrical equipment wiring systems to facilities repair work.
- Installs, overhauls, repairs and maintains horizontal and vertical electrically-driven water, sump pumps, automatic and manual switches, fittings, bearings, impellers, pump shafts, shaft coverings, chlorinates and filtration units.
- Installs, overhauls and does repair on electric motors.
- Changes bearings, commentator parts, brushes, and riggings.
- Dismantles, cleans and lubricates pump and motor parts, aligns pumps to motors and tests pumps and motors for proper alignment and operation.
- Read just alignment and retests pumps and motors as necessary.
- Replaces defective parts and fabricates parts using various shop equipment such as grinders, drill presses and welding equipment.
- Locates and determines causes of equipment malfunctions and performs repair or remedial actions as necessary.
- Chlorinates and filtration units.
- Reads plans and specification for the installation and repair of pump units.
- Requisition s for parts and unit replacements, keeps records of work performed and materials used.
- Operates a motor vehicle.
Training and
Experience:
A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to:
- completion of the eighth grade,
- four (4) years of experience as an apprentice or helper under a journeyman electrician, and
- some experience in the repair and overhaul of electrically-driven pumps and related equipment (examples of related equipment are pool and water chlorinators, backwash systems, and electrical and manual valves), and
- possession of a valid State of Hawai'i Journey level Electrician's License at time of filing (scan and attach a copy of your valid license to your application), and
- possession of a valid State of Hawai`i driver's license (Class
3) or any other valid comparable driver license at time of filing. (You will be required to submit your valid driver's license at time of hire).
Examination:
All applicants who meet the minimum qualification requirements will be assigned a score of 70 points. An education and experience evaluation will be conducted based on the applicant's training, education and experience as presented in the application. The theory of electricity; practices, tools, equipment and materials used in this electrical and mechanic trades; installation, maintenance and repair of electrical equipment, apparatus and instruments; laws, rules and standards pertaining to electrical construction and maintenance; and hazard and safety practices and procedures involved in working around electricity and moving machine.
