Position: Water Plant Electrical/Electronic Equipment Repairer I - BC-12

Installs, maintains, overhauls, operates, and repairs water plant electrical, electronic, and mechanical control devices and equipment; and performs other related duties as required.

Immediate Vacancies

Two permanent full‑time positions in the Department of Water Supply – Operations Division (Geographic District III – South Kona and North Kona).

Responsibilities
  • Installs, maintains, overhauls, and repairs water plant electrical, mechanical, and electromechanical devices and equipment such as switching devices; pressure transducers and transmitters; relays; temperature controls; pressure switches; circuits; high, medium, and low voltage switch gears and soft starters; variable frequency drives; motor control centers; motors; generators; overhead cranes; and distribution power, current, control and lighting transformers, etc.
  • Installs, operates, maintains, overhauls, and repairs water plant electronics, SCADA systems equipment, electronic circuits, electronic control devices, telemetering equipment, PLC's, resistors, capacitors, and related water system equipment for treatment plants, filter plants, chlorinator stations, tank sites, and pump stations.
  • Estimates material requirements for plant installation, mechanical maintenance, and repair work.
  • Reads and interprets plans for installing electrical equipment and troubleshooting.
  • Troubleshoots booster and deep well pumps, motors, compressors, elevators, and control valves both electrically and mechanically.
  • Services, repairs, overhauls, or replaces pumps and motors, aligning pump motors.
  • Installs, repairs, and maintains deep well pump control valves, booster pump control valves, pressure‑reducing valves, and tank control devices.
  • Installs, maintains, overhauls, repairs, and calibrates electrical and electronic circuitry and necessary components such as pressure transducers and chart recorders.
  • Programs electronic flow meters and other electronic equipment.
  • Operates and performs minor repairs and programming to SCADA systems.
  • Installs, calibrates, repairs, maintains, and operates water quality equipment.
  • Installs, maintains, operates, and repairs power, lighting, electrical and electronic circuits, conduits, outlets, meter loops, underground high, medium, and low voltage wiring; pole and line wiring; power transfer switching equipment; mercury vapor and fluorescent lighting; photo‑cell controls, etc.
  • Inspects and tests equipment for shorts, grounds, and open circuits, and diagnoses faulty circuits.
  • Identifies, isolates, and corrects defective circuits; renews and repairs defective parts.
  • Fabricates various parts using materials of appropriate conducting, resistance, and/or insulating properties.
  • Performs shop and bench work in the overhaul, repair, and testing of equipment and components.
  • Performs sanitary survey checks with Department of Health personnel to verify water system quality and addresses required corrections.
  • May perform oxyacetylene and electric welding.
  • Receives and investigates customer complaints; resolves problems or forwards to supervisor.
  • Services, repairs, and maintains mechanical equipment such as generators, trench pumps, cutting machines, jack hammers, and compressors.
  • Maintains and repairs devices on overhead traveling cranes.
  • Installs, maintains, overhauls, repairs, and calibrates electrical and electronic laboratory and field instruments.
  • Reads and interprets wiring diagrams and schematics; modifies circuitry for operational needs.
  • Maintains operational records.
  • Complies with all Federal, State, and County laws, regulations, and policies on occupational safety and health.
  • Performs maintenance work on water plant stations and buildings.
  • May serve as backup to Water Plant Operator; may train other employees as assigned.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
  • High school graduation.
  • One (1) year of journey‑level experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of plant electrical and electronic equipment, instruments, and devices, including work with high, medium, and low voltage lines and equipment.
