Position Summary: The Residential Relief Staff for the Safe House Programs is an on‑call position with flexible hours assigned according to program needs. The staff member performs essential functions as outlined below and is supervised by the Program Manager.
Responsibilities- Maintain facility upkeep to meet program and licensing standards; report issues to Program Manager.
- Ensure completeness of resident and program files.
- Enforce program rules and procedures consistently.
- Meet ongoing resident needs and coordinate transportation to and from school, work, appointments, and recreational outings.
- Participate in informal group sessions with residents.
- Implement and monitor a chore system for residents.
- Provide backup support during emergencies, including safe restraints if required.
- Plan and facilitate group recreational activities and outings.
- Complete daily reports and consultations for each resident.
- Monitor phones, visitors, students, workers, parents, and handle emergencies and crisis calls.
- Conduct intake and discharge orientation for new residents and verify safe arrival after discharge.
- Serve as a crisis counselor during duty, handling calls in person or by phone with youth and/or parents.
- Model professional behavior, communication, decision making, discipline, organization, and respect for property.
- Maintain all required documentation related to residents.
- Assist in public information campaigns and represent the agency in the community.
- Attend required meetings, workshops, retreats, conferences, and growth groups.
- Shop for groceries, plan menus, and supervise residents during meal preparation.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.

- Maintain regular and punctual attendance with flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
Sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching, crouching, crawling, standing, walking, manual dexterity, eye–hand coordination, vision, driving a vehicle, pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying 25–50 pounds (occasionally more than 50 pounds), traveling by airplane, handling safe restraints or residents involved in physical confrontations.
Communication DemandsTalking with co‑workers, clients, vendors; written communication; telephone communication; responding to verbal and written requests; training and giving instructions; receiving instructions; writing and reading; visiting or working at other work sites; using latest technologies; communicating with people of diverse cultures and ethnicities.
Skills/Technical KnowledgePrioritize multiple work tasks to meet tight deadlines.
Equipment NeedsUse office equipment such as computers, photocopiers, scanners, calculators, etc.
Work EnvironmentMost work occurs indoors at Family Intervention Services. Attendance at trainings in Hawaii and on the mainland may be required.
