Job Summary

The Residential Specialist for the Safe House program is a full‑time 40‑hour week non‑exempt position. The Residential Specialist performs essential functions as described and is supervised by the Program Coordinator. During their assigned shift, the Specialist is responsible for maintaining the facility to meet program and licensing standards. The program provides services to adolescent female residents and collaborates with community agencies to support each youth’s placement and needs.

The Specialist supports the goals of the Safe House program through the essential functions outlined below.

Minimum & Essential Qualifications
  • High school graduate.
  • At least 3 years of experience working with troubled or at‑risk youth; or 3 years working in a residential and/or social service setting; or a combination thereof.
  • Valid Hawaii driver’s license.
  • Valid TB clearance and pre‑employment medical clearance.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certification.
  • DHS, FBI, and CAN clearance.
  • Meets Salvation Army standards as an authorized driver.
Desired Qualifications
  • Associate degree in human services or related field; or two years of college studies in human services and one year of experience working with juveniles; or bachelor’s degree in human services or related field.
  • Completion of Professional Residential Child Care and Youth Care Certification.
  • Other certifications or training relevant to the position.
Essential Functions
  • Maintain facility to meet program and licensing standards; report unmet conditions to the Program Manager.
  • Coordinate group program activities for after‑school, weekends, holidays, and vacations.
  • Supervise and monitor all client residents at all times during assigned shifts.
  • Ensure complete resident and program files.
  • Maintain consistency in program procedures.
  • Monitor resident service contracts to ensure resident and family needs are met.
  • Identify staff training needs and report to Program Manager.
  • Transport residents to and from school, job, and appointments when needed.
  • Complete required daily reports and consults on each resident.
  • Monitor phones, visitors, workers, parents, and handle emergencies and crisis calls.
  • Assist Program Manager in supervising residential assistants and volunteers.
  • Facilitate scheduled house/group meetings, fire drills, and documentation.
  • Act as a crisis counselor on duty.
  • Model appropriate behavior and communication, maintain professional boundaries.
  • Support the delivery of the resident’s service plan as established by the Program Manager.
  • Participate in individual, group, and family counseling sessions when requested.
  • Maintain documentation and provide monthly program summary and statistical data to Program Manager.
  • Assist in public information campaigns and represent the agency in the community.
  • Attend meetings, workshops, retreats, conferences, and growth groups as scheduled or required.
  • Manage grocery shopping and menu planning for the Safe House, supervising residents in meal preparation.
  • Professionally manage at‑risk behavior problems.
  • Work all assigned shifts and rotations, including evening to early morning and weekends.
  • Duties are performed at the Safe House facility.
