Driver’s license required. The position is for a Level III Social Worker in the Judiciary system. Applicants must hold a current, valid driver’s license to operate a motor vehicle.

• Supervise juvenile law violators, adult law violators, defendants conditionally released from the Hawaii State Hospital, and juvenile status offenders.
• Conduct child custody/visitation evaluations.
• Assist protection order petitioners.
• Assist in child welfare cases referred to the Family Court.
• Provide services for juveniles temporarily detained.
• Engage families and community in juvenile cases.
• Provide direct casework, perform independent client analysis, give reasoned recommendations, and prepare case records and reports.

Graduate of an accredited four‑year college or university with a bachelor’s degree, including at least twelve semester credit hours in courses such as social work, social welfare, criminal justice, human services, counseling, psychology, sociology, or related social sciences.

Experience may be substituted for education if it demonstrates comparable knowledge and abilities, and must include the ability to write clear reports, read and interpret complex material, and solve problems logically.

At least one and a half years of progressively responsible professional social work experience, involving assessment, service planning, interdisciplinary teamwork, and client progress evaluation.

• Bachelor’s in Social Work or Criminal Justice = Social Worker II (or six months of experience).
• Master’s in Social Work or Criminal Justice = Social Worker III (or 1½ years of experience).
• Ph.D. in Social Work or Criminal Justice = Social Worker IV (or 2½ years of experience).

• Supportive services to professional social workers, vocational rehabilitation specialists, housing managers, or similar roles.
• Eligibility determination for public welfare benefits.
• Vocational, educational, psychological, or pastoral counseling.
• Occupational or physical therapeutic services.
• Peace Corps or VISTA work lacking professional supervision or social work principles.
• Relocation of clients due to urban renewal or similar.
• Trainee‑level social work without competent supervision.

Applicants with a history of sexual abuse, related convictions, civil or administrative adjudications, or substantiated allegations against detainees in juvenile or adult facilities are ineligible.

Most positions serve as probation officers, managing a caseload of clients adjudicated for law violations or status offenses, and providing supervision, services, and compliance monitoring.
