Social Worker II (PO/DL) – SR‑18 – Hilo, Hawaii

This posting is for a second level social worker position. Depending on your education and experience, you may also qualify for other levels. Review the Minimum Qualification Requirements to determine eligibility.

Working as a Social Worker with the Judiciary provides opportunities to contribute to public welfare and safety. Social workers are employed in various court programs with a variety of clients and issues.

• Supervise juvenile law violators, adult law violators, defendants conditionally released from the Hawaii State Hospital, or juvenile status offenders.
• Conduct child custody/visitation evaluations.
• Assist protection order petitioners.
• Assist in child welfare services cases referred to the Family Court.
• Assist juveniles temporarily detained.
• Engage families and community in juvenile cases.
• Other duties as required.

Cases may involve substance abuse, mental health, domestic violence, sexual assault, trafficking, child abuse and neglect, trauma, disputed child custody/visitation, victim restitution, and other issues.

• Graduation from an accredited 4‑year college or university with a bachelor’s degree, including at least 12 semester credit hours in social work, social welfare, criminal justice, human services, counseling, psychology, sociology, or related social sciences.
• One half year of progressively responsible professional social work experience that involved utilizing a variety of social work skills and exercising professional judgement in assisting individuals and families with identifying problems, evaluating situations, and considering resources.

• Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or Criminal Justice Administration qualifies for Social Worker II or six months of experience.
• Master’s degree in Social Work or Criminal Justice Administration qualifies for Social Worker III or one and a half years of experience.
• Ph.D. degree in Social Work or Criminal Justice Administration qualifies for Social Worker IV or two and a half years of experience.

• Current and valid driver’s license.
• Compliance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA):
  Applicants must not have a history of sexual abuse or related convictions, civil or administrative adjudications, or substantiated allegations as described in PREA guidance.
