Financial Controller — Hands-On Accounting Leader
We are a long-established, market-leading staple organization across the lower Low country of SC
. We are seeking a Financial Controller who wants real ownership — not just oversight.
This is a hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves Controller role for someone who still enjoys being in the accounting weeds while also leading, mentoring, and developing a Staff Accountant
. You will own the day-to-day financial engine of the business, tighten controls, elevate reporting, and serve as a trusted partner to ownership.

This is not a passive, review-only position.
You’ll have influence, visibility, and trust — but also real responsibility for getting the numbers right.
Hands-On Accounting & Close- Personally execute and own core accounting functions
- Be deeply involved in the month-end close, reconciliations, and reporting
- Step in wherever needed to keep the books clean and accurate
- Act as both player and coach — leading by example while developing your direct report
- Own AP, AR, cash flow, and general ledger integrity
- Prepare and deliver monthly financial statements and management reporting
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
- Conduct monthly analytical reviews and highlight performance drivers
- Translate financial data into clear, actionable insight for ownership
- Develop, document, and enforce internal controls, policies, and procedures
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable regulations
- Oversee payroll, sales, and income tax compliance
- Coordinate with external CPAs on tax filings, reviews, and audits
- Identify inefficiencies and improve processes — not just report on them
- Lead and mentor one Staff Accountant
- Provide hands-on training, review work, and elevate technical skill sets
- Establish workflows, close calendars, and accountability standards
- Build confidence and consistency through active coaching and support

- 5–15+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Prior Controller or senior accounting leadership experience strongly preferred
- Deep comfort with hands-on GL accounting, reconciliations, and close
- Experience mentoring or developing junior accounting staff
- Strong GAAP knowledge; multi-entity experience
- High accountability, attention to detail, and a “no task too small” mindset
- Strong Excel skills and comfort working directly in accounting systems
- Ability to communicate clearly with non-financial stakeholders
