The Sea Pines Resort on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina is seeking an Assistant-in-Training to join the Golf Course Maintenance team at Heron Point by Pete Dye. This role provides hands-on training in managing a bold and challenging Pete Dye design, where attention to detail and precision are critical to ensuring excellent playability. The AIT will develop technical skills while learning the intricacies of maintaining a demanding, architecturally unique course.

Located on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, The Sea Pines Resort is a world-class destination offering premier golf, hospitality, and leisure experiences. The resort features three distinguished golf courses:
Harbour Town Golf Links, Heron Point by Pete Dye, and Atlantic Dunes by Davis Love III.

• Gain experience maintaining a Pete Dye–designed course with bold contours, challenging bunkering, and strategic water features
• Learn advanced practices in precision mowing, bunker detailing, and water management
• Develop skills in preparing a course that emphasizes strategic playability and visual drama
• Work on course enhancement projects that reflect Pete Dye’s architectural philosophy

• Learn daily maintenance practices that ensure championship-level playing conditions
• Gain practical experience with pesticide and fertilizer applications
• Develop skills in irrigation operation, hand watering, and water management strategies
• Participate in course improvement projects, renovations, and cultural practices
• Shadow superintendents and assistants to understand leadership, scheduling, and crew management

• Assist with daily course setup: cup cutting, bunker maintenance, and mowing practices
• Operate a variety of turf equipment, including mowers, rollers, and aerifiers
• Support fertilizer and pesticide handling, calibration, application, and record keeping
• Participate in irrigation inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs
• Lead small crews on projects and daily assignments as experience grows
• Contribute to tournament and event preparation, including the RBC Heritage

• Mentorship from Golf Course Superintendents and Assistant Superintendents
• Exposure to three distinct championship courses and their unique maintenance practices
