Operations Manager
We are seeking an experienced Director of Engineering to lead all engineering, maintenance, and facilities operations for a luxury resort environment located in the Hilton Head, South Carolina area
.
This position is responsible for maintaining a safe, efficient, and visually appealing property while ensuring all building systems operate at the highest level. The Director of Engineering oversees preventative maintenance programs, capital improvement projects, utilities management, and regulatory compliance while partnering closely with executive leadership and ownership stakeholders.
The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise across building systems, proven leadership experience within a resort or hotel environment, and the ability to balance operational execution with long-term strategic planning.
Key Responsibilities Communication & Stakeholder Collaboration- Communicate engineering initiatives, priorities, and operational updates to senior leadership and key stakeholders.
- Present reports, recommendations, and technical updates to ownership and executive teams.
- Manage expectations and provide guidance related to facilities performance and operational improvements.
- Maintain and enforce operational standards for engineering and facilities management.
- Monitor engineering performance metrics and service delivery standards.
- Develop and implement best practices related to maintenance operations.
- Evaluate guest feedback and operational data to identify improvement opportunities.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable safety regulations, building codes, and operational policies.
- Oversee facility management technologies including CMMS systems, building automation systems, and lighting controls
. - Evaluate and implement technologies that improve operational efficiency and asset management.
- Oversee all building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, life safety, and structural components
. - Maintain the condition of the property’s interior, exterior, grounds, and infrastructure.
- Lead preventative maintenance programs and ensure systems operate at peak performance.
- Manage vendor relationships and maintenance contracts.
- Evaluate maintenance service delivery strategies including outsourced and in-house support.
- Monitor contractor performance and ensure quality workmanship.
- Lead the financial management of the Engineering department.
- Develop and manage operating budgets and utilities forecasts.
- Prepare capital improvement plans and long-term asset management strategies.
- Review financial reports including budgets, forecasts, and profit and loss statements.
- Manage contracts and vendor agreements while ensuring fiscal accountability.
- Support and maintain emergency response and preparedness programs.
- Coordinate emergency drills and facility safety exercises in partnership with safety and security leadership.
- Plan and manage capital improvement and renovation projects.
- Develop project scope, schedule, and financial plans.
- Oversee construction and renovation work to ensure quality and timeline expectations are met.
- Manage vendor relationships and contractor performance throughout project execution.
- Support environmental initiatives and sustainability programs across the property.
- Monitor and report utility usage including energy, water, and waste management.
- Implement environmentally responsible practices within facilities operations.
- Maintain awareness of sustainability standards and emerging technologies.
- Minimum 5+ years of leadership experience in engineering or facilities management within a hotel or resort environment
. - Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Property Management, or related field preferred, or equivalent professional experience.
- Strong project management experience including capital improvements and renovations.
- Advanced knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical systems, and general building maintenance
. - Strong financial and business acumen with experience managing departmental budgets and capital planning.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and maintenance management systems.
Most work is performed indoors within the resort environment. The role requires frequent walking throughout the property and the ability to oversee multiple operational areas simultaneously. The position involves standing, walking, bending, climbing, and occasional lifting of items up to 30 pounds. The ability to push or pull equipment carts up to 250 pounds occasionally may be required.
