The City of Hinesville is accepting applications for a Building License & Permit Technician.
This position is responsible for issuing and collecting payments for building permits, providing information regarding the building inspections process, and performing other administrative and secretarial duties.
- § Issues, completes and collects payments for building permits, verifies that contractors possess the required licenses, ensures compliance with codes and ordinances, enters permit data to the computer, and maintains files for issued permits. Explains procedures of obtainingbuilding permits, mobile home location permits, and all other trade permits.
- § Reviews all permit applications for accuracy and completeness.
- § Reviews Occupational Taxes for completeness and accuracy,maintains contractor sub list (city and county), and explains procedures forlicensure and required inspections, ensures compliance with codes and ordinances, enters data into the computer.
- § Answers the office telephone, takes requests forinspections, and assigns/notifies the inspectors of requested inspections.
- § Prepares and maintains files for building permits; preparesinspection checklists for required inspections on construction projects.
- § Enters all buildingpermit data to the computer; prints certificates of occupancy upon thesatisfactory completion of all required inspections.
- § Maintains building department software records to ensure uniformity of data entry for Geographical Information System input.
- § Compiles daily,weekly and monthly inspection progress data in report format.
Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma and one to two years of experience. Skills in oral and written communication and knowledge of modern office practices and procedure sis required. Applicants will be required to take a clerical skills test.
The starting salary for the position is $17.76 hourly. Applications willbe accepted through August 20, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.
