Overview

The Superintendent oversees a construction worksite as assigned, providing direct oversight of the worksite, coordinating activities and employees, and supporting the successful completion of the project.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Directly supervise and coordinate activities of numerous minor construction projects. Perform supervisory and management functions reporting to the Project Manager. May also engage in the same construction trades work as the workers being supervised.
  • Coordinate, direct and lead workers engaged in construction activities.
  • Supervise crews to obtain top quality workmanship, efficiency, employee satisfaction, morale, communication, teamwork and pride.
  • Review and verify crew time sheets and submit to Payroll on specified days.
  • Recognize and communicate any priority projects or problems, such as employee or job costing issues and client complaints.
  • Ensure that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed; bring problems to the attention of the Project Manager, Safety Department and/or HR Manager.
  • Provide calculations on hours involved, materials required, and the resources (truck, plant and personnel) needed.
  • Plan, allocate resources, manage production and coordinate people and equipment.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Supervisory responsibilities may include oversight of professional, technical, clerical, and/or labor staff in support of the project.
Education And/or Experience
  • A minimum of 3 years of related skill, knowledge or experience in construction practices. Experience and training must include methods, techniques, equipment and hands-on supervisory experience.
  • Journeyman level experience and education including being a graduate from a technical school in a construction trade, qualifications through a recognized union in the construction trades arena, or current/former licensed owner/operator of a construction-related business.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Basic knowledge of administration and management.
  • Ability to recognize problems and take corrective action; good judgment in carrying out duties.
  • Ability to read, understand and apply information from blueprints, surveys and job specifications.
  • Interpersonal skills to positively influence employees and subcontractors to achieve mutual goals.
  • Strong coordination, time management, listening, oral and written communication, critical thinking and reasoning skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access) and E-mail.
  • Self-motivation and the ability to work effectively with minimal supervision; ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • OSHA Certification Required
Security Clearance
  • MRPT Level Required — Must be able to successfully complete a U.S. government investigation for an MRPT (Moderate Risk Public Trust).
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Must be able to maintain MRPT eligibility.
