Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced ER RN for a night shift position at a Critical Access Hospital requiring 2 years of ER experience and GA or compact RN licensure.

Details
  • Work in the Emergency Room of an acute care Critical Access Hospital (CAH), located about 40 miles SW of Savannah, GA
  • 18-bed unit including 3 trauma bays, averaging 90 patients/day with peak seasonal volume up to 140/day
  • Nurse to patient ratio generally 1:4-5 depending on acuity
  • Treat general ER patient population including abdominal pain, lacerations, CP/SOB, stroke, psych, MVAs, trauma (stabilize and transfer), DKA, sickle cell, and STEMI (send out)
  • Facility has a triage area where travelers may work based on experience, but no separate fast track or holding area
  • ER nurses manage their own ER holds
  • Two 'safety rooms' available for psych patients in lieu of dedicated psych/seclusion rooms
  • Telemetry monitoring in every room except safety rooms; RNs must read and interpret their own strips
  • In-house X-ray/CT available 24/7 with Radiology transport
  • RNs and techs draw labs
  • RT staffed 24/7 (1 at night); RNs must be able to troubleshoot vents, BiPap, CPAP, and other RT equipment
  • Charting completed in Tru Bridge
    - Evident and T-system EMRs
  • 12-hour night shifts (7a-7p rotation)
  • Self-scheduling and block scheduling allowed, subject to manager approval
  • Every other weekend required
  • Holiday coverage rotated with permanent staff
  • No floating and no call/standby requirements
Requirements
  • Active RN license (GA or Compact) required
  • Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and PALS required; TNCC preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of ER experience required
  • Experience from smaller community hospitals preferred over CAH due to higher patient volume
  • Must be proficient with IVs and drips, with ICU hold experience preferred
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment required
Additional Information
  • Charge nurse present on every shift and takes a patient assignment
  • PCTs support the unit, assisting with vitals, lab draws, splinting, and general tech duties
  • Both MD and mid-level providers staffed daily, with plans to add a third provider
  • In-house security available on weekends, with 24/7 coverage in development
  • Pharmacy in house until 5pm; resource nurse mixes meds using provided reference materials
  • Unit/department orientation consists of 3 shifts
  • Facility emphasizes strong customer service and patient satisfaction
  • Facility will not accommodate schedule changes
  • Facility may cancel up to 2 shifts per 13-week contract
  • Scrub color is Caribbean Blue, with scrub jacket in matching color or white
  • Masking not required if vaccinated; face mask and shield required if unvaccinated
  • Travel experience preferred but not required, so first-time travelers may be considered
