Overview
The Hingham Public Library seeks a friendly, welcoming,and energetic individual to work as a Children's Librarian on a team providing direct customer service work to children, youth, and their families, as well as specialized supervisory work overseeing the busy Children’s Department. Candidate should have knowledge of children’s literature and reader’s advisory and reference services for children of all ages, and experience in planning, presenting and providing a wide variety of children’s story times and engaging programming and events that promote and foster literacy and education.
Candidate should be comfortable and experienced assisting community members including parents, teachers, and caregivers with their information needs as it pertains to children; selecting and purchasing age-appropriate material for children of all ages as part of overall collection development and weeding maintenance; providing excellent general customer service to patrons of all ages with a focus on children and their families;
resolving problems and responding to inquiries, requests, and complaints; providing on-going instruction, training, leadership and guidance to both staff and patrons in relation to children’s services; evaluating and reviewing staff work performance; working with and learning new technologies; preparing and distributing written press releases and marketing materials that promote and support the activities of the department; assisting with grant writing for children’s services;
tracking spending and monitoring the children’s portion of the materials and programming budgets; and preparing statistical and other reports as required. Other duties as assigned.
A candidate for this position should have a Master’s Degree in Library Science and two (2) years of professional experience in library operations. Supervisory experience and experience working with children in a library or related educational setting is preferred. Must be detailed oriented, capable of multi-tasking, and willing to work as part of a team.
ScheduleSchedule includes some evenings, Saturdays, and Sundays as scheduled by the Assistant Library Director. Schedule subject to change throughout the year.

Salary NotesFull-time: 35 hours/week average. Grade L-14. Range $34.31 - $41.69/hour in five annual steps.
