Special Education Teacher

Integrated Preschool

Job Summary

To provide a safe, nurturing environment with enriching and developmentally appropriate experiences that lead to opportunities for social, emotional, physical, and academic learning.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Early Childhood or a related field
  • Current authorization to work in the United States – must be available by first day of employment
  • MA DESE Licensure:
    Early Childhood Pre‑K‑2 and Special Education Moderate Disabilities Pre‑K‑2 or Pre‑K‑8
  • Excellent written and oral communication
  • Ability to use technology effectively
  • Current knowledge of implementation of the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks for the Early Childhood Pre‑K‑K grades
Responsibilities
  • Creatively provide an interdisciplinary course of study that integrates reading, writing, and analytical skills development in alignment with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks for core content areas.
  • Provide differentiated instruction to meet the needs of all learners, including students with disabilities and English learners. Develop IEPs and administer assessments as required for students with disabilities.
  • Create a developmentally appropriate, child‑centered early childhood environment that establishes positive student behavioral expectations conducive to all learners’ needs through structured routines and positive behavioral interventions.
  • Establish classroom structure that values positive relationships through the intentional implementation of an appropriate curriculum. Supervise and ensure the safety and well‑being of the children, and be alert to individual and group needs.
  • Provide an equitable and inclusive learning environment that is responsive to all learners and their families.
  • Partner with families to create strong two‑way communication, including daily emails, monthly newsletters, and family/teacher conferences.
  • Regularly partner and plan with grade‑level and school teams to provide all students with the best educational program possible.
  • Collaborate with other educators to create daily routines, activities, and lessons to enhance each child’s preschool experience and prepare them for Kindergarten.
  • Administer and analyze district and state formative and summative assessments in accordance with district guidelines. Apply assessment data to plan for students’ differentiated needs.
  • Track and assess children’s academic and social‑emotional progress, including anecdotal notes. Develop responsive IEPs for students on IEPs.
  • Perform other job‑related duties as needed.
Requirements
  • Stamina to support needs and movement of young children throughout the day
  • Frequent bending, squatting, crouching, kneeling, and sitting on the floor to engage with children
  • Ability to ambulate frequently to engage with students in student‑centered activities
  • Effective communication of accurate information so others will understand
  • Ability to observe classroom details at close and distant ranges and recognize and assess needs
  • Computer literacy
  • Prepare curriculum that may involve use of small objects
