Multicraft Maintenance Technician

This role performs comprehensive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electro-mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems within a large, high-volume food manufacturing facility. The Multicraft Maintenance Technician ensures production equipment operates safely, efficiently, and reliably by conducting routine calibration, preventive maintenance, and corrective repairs on a wide range of industrial machinery and control systems.

Responsibilities
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals, schematics, and work orders to determine required maintenance and service tasks.
  • Perform routine calibration and preventive maintenance on a variety of electro-mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
  • Conduct mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic troubleshooting and repair on production machines and related equipment.
  • Maintain, repair, and troubleshoot electrical equipment including electric motors, control boxes, welders, and programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
  • Maintain and troubleshoot all conveyor systems, including both electrical and mechanical components, to ensure consistent product flow.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electric, and hydraulic motors, as well as associated electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Use electrical test equipment such as multimeters to identify issues, interpret readings (including conditions such as open line/overload), and verify proper operation after repairs.
  • Apply knowledge of variable frequency drives (VFDs), three-phase power, and control wiring to safely install, adjust, and troubleshoot motor control circuits.
  • Follow established safety procedures and lockout/tagout practices while performing maintenance and repairs.
  • Document maintenance activities, repairs performed, and parts used in accordance with facility requirements.
Essential Skills
  • Proven experience as a multicraft or multiskilled maintenance technician with a 50/50 balance of electrical and mechanical skills.
  • Strong electrical troubleshooting skills, including experience with three-phase power systems and industrial electrical equipment.
  • Hands-on experience with hydraulics and pneumatics, including troubleshooting and repair of associated components.
  • Ability to perform preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance on production machinery in an industrial environment.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and equipment manuals.
  • Experience with PLC troubleshooting and basic understanding of industrial control systems.
  • Knowledge of variable frequency drives (VFDs), their primary purpose, and how to apply them in motor control applications.
  • Understanding of color codes and wiring practices for AC three-phase motors, DC control circuits (including 24V DC control wiring), and grounding.
  • Ability to reverse the direction of a three-phase motor safely and correctly by adjusting motor leads or connections.
  • Competence using a multimeter, including interpreting readings such as "OL" and other diagnostic indicators.
  • Mechanical aptitude for working with conveyors, motors, and other moving equipment in a production environment.
  • Strong troubleshooting mindset with the ability to diagnose complex issues across electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
