Job Summary:

To perform all aspects of distribution line construction, maintenance and troubleshooting on both overhead and underground lines operating at up to 25KV.

Key Responsibilities:
  • 1. Work on energized lines at voltages up to 25KV from bucket truck.
  • 2. Participates in the construction and maintenance of distribution lines, performs the following: frames poles, sets poles, changes out poles, pulls and ties in wire, climbs and trims trees, uses a chain saw and cuts r-o-w, installs transformers, switches and other line devices, terminates and splices URD cable, builds riser poles, test phasing and rotation, takes voltage and current measurements, sets, meters, provides accurate written information on work performed and any associated tasks involved in line work.
  • 3. Writes and/or executes switching orders on overhead and underground lines and substations.
  • 4. Troubleshoots outages and restores service. Troubleshoot problems on three phase transformer banks.
  • 5. Directs Apprentice Lineman III/Equipment Operator in the set up of vehicles at work site.
  • 6. Assists Foreman and Apprentice Lineman III/Equipment Operator in ensuring that vehicles, equipment and tools are in proper condition.
  • 7. Perform in the capacity of crew leader during the absence of the Foreman and while working On-Call.
  • 8. Assist Foreman in the development of proper work skills/procedures for Apprentice Linemen.
  • 9. Keeps up to date on circuit feeds.
  • 10. Work safely. Follow all safety rules.
  • Required Education,

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
    • Require high school graduate or equivalent.
    • Requires six (6) years' experience in electrical distribution, construction and maintenance with at least two of those years in the position of a Journeyman Lineman.
    • Require a valid Georgia Commercial Drivers License. Require OPC certification as an Integrated Transmission System Operator.
    • Requires forklift certification and D.O.T. certification in traffic flagging and control.
    • Must have the necessary hand tools required by the position.
    • Must be able to climb.
    • Must possess those mental and physical abilities necessary to perform energized line work.
    • Place of residence must be either within Grey Stone's service area or not to exceed 15 miles from the center of reporting activity in order to meet the requirement for serving On-Call.
    • Must be willing to work after hours to assist in service restoration.
    • Must be willing to serve regularly in the on-call rotation schedule for restoring service after hours. Must successfully pass medical and physical, including a hearing and vision test, and drug screening as required.

    Very Heavy Work:
    Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

    Physical Activity of the position includes:
    A. Climbing:
    Ascending or descending ladders, stairs,scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized. This factor is important if the amount and kind of climbing required exceeds that required for ordinary locomotion.
    B. Balancing:
    Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery or erratically moving surfaces. This factor is important if the amount and kind of balancing exceeds that needed for ordinary locomotion and maintenance of body equilibrium.
    C. Stooping:
    Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.
    D. Kneeling:
    Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.
    E. Crouching:
    Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
    F. Crawling:
    Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet.
    G. Reaching:
    Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
    H. Standing:
    Particularly for sustained periods of time.
    I. Walking:
    Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances.
    J. Pushing:
    Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward.
    K. Pulling:
    Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.
    L. Lifting:
    Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires the substantial use of the upper extremities and back muscles.
    M. Fingering:
    Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working primarily with fingers, rather than with the whole hand or arm as in handling.
    N. Grasping:
    Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
