Substitute Teacher

School City of Hobart is seeking substitute teachers for the School City of Hobart. Positions are filled on an as-needed basis. The substitute teacher supports continuity of instruction and student supervision in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. The substitute teacher follows teacher-provided plans, maintains a safe and orderly learning environment, supervises students, and communicates appropriately with school staff.

Key responsibilities include following lesson plans, maintaining a safe and orderly classroom environment, implementing assigned instructional activities, taking attendance, and communicating promptly with school staff regarding questions, emergencies, student welfare issues, or situations requiring administrative support.

Minimum requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent and the ability to obtain and maintain a valid Indiana substitute teacher permit or Indiana teaching license. Preferred experience includes prior substitute teaching, classroom support, youth supervision, or comparable experience.

This position is scheduled on an as-needed and as-available basis and is not eligible for retirement or health insurance benefits. The position requires the ability to stand, walk, sit, talk, hear, supervise students, respond to classroom activity, move throughout school areas, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Work is performed primarily indoors in a school setting and requires frequent interaction with students, staff, parents, and visitors.
