The Instructional Designer shall report to the Dean of Arts & Sciences. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Responsibilities- Collaborate with faculty to design and enhance online, hybrid, and technology-enhanced courses, specifically ensuring that regular and substantive interaction (RSI) is integrated into the design.
- Provide hands‑on support and training to faculty regarding effective course design, instruction, and the integration of digital tools.
- Design, facilitate, and assist with professional development sessions focused on instructional innovation, online pedagogy, OER adoption, accessibility, and emerging technologies.
- Develop accessible, user‑centered training materials, digital learning assets (like videos, guides, and modules), and resources for faculty.
- Ensure courses align with federal regulations, accreditation requirements, and quality assurance standards, with a focus on digital accessibility requirements and RSI compliance.
- Consult with faculty to recommend appropriate instructional technologies and implement best practices for enhancing teaching and learning.
- Collect and evaluate feedback from both students and faculty to continuously improve instructional design practices.
- Stay current with developments in instructional design, learning science, accessibility, and emerging technologies by attending professional workshops.
- Actively participate in supporting the goals outlined in the NMJC Strategic Plan to advance the mission of the college and maintain regional accreditation.
- Work in collaboration with the IT Department to ensure seamless usage of related instructional technology platforms (Simple Syllabus, Dropout Detective, Banner, etc.).
- Fulfill institutional service requirements by actively participating on working committees as assigned.
- May serve on various campus committees as assigned.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, or a related field from a regionally accredited institution is required.
- A Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, or a related field is preferred.
- Previous experience in instructional design or course development, with a focus on online learning environments, is preferred.
- Previous experience collaborating with higher education faculty, preferably at a community college, to enhance teaching and learning through instructional innovation is preferred.
- The successful candidate must possess strong collaboration skills, excellent technical and organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively with faculty across diverse academic disciplines.
- Proficiency in online pedagogy, course design frameworks, and digital tool integration within a Learning Management System.
- Ability to design and deliver accessible, user‑centered training materials, multimedia assets, and professional development sessions for higher education faculty.
- High level of interpersonal communication skills to navigate consultative relationships with faculty and collaborate effectively across departments.
- Strong working knowledge of federal accessibility requirements, RSI compliance regulations, and quality assurance standards for distance education.
- Ability to troubleshoot, support, and collaborate with IT on academic technology platforms (such as Simple Syllabus, Dropout Detective, and Banner).
