Qualifications
  • NM Public Education Department SPED Teaching License or eligibility.
  • Successful experience preferred teaching elementary students.
  • Knowledge of Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports (PBIS).
  • Experience with technology.
  • Must demonstrate a willingness to work in a cooperative working environment.
  • Strong reading, written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
Responsibilities
  • Work with students with special needs.
  • All subject areas.
  • Conduct IEP meetings as needed.
  • Work productively as part of a team.
  • The teacher will regularly conduct planning for lessons using commonly accepted professional practice (content, goals, assessment, re-teaching, etc.) and consistent with school/district approved curriculum and instructional practice.
  • The teacher uses research-based instructional strategies in planning lessons to make the teaching and learning more relevant to students (e.g., contextual learning opportunities).
  • The teacher maintains and provides reasonable and meaningful student grading and evaluation consistent with school district policy and regularly and effectively communicates such information to students and parents. Reporting may include regular posting to and maintenance of electronic grade systems with parent and student access.
  • The teacher integrates district approved and/or required technology into planning, learning, progress reporting, and required record-keeping activities.
  • The teacher creates, communicates, and maintains classroom management practices that effectively engage students in the learning process. Acceptable student behavior and related discipline procedures are well understood by students and consistently enforced to maintain a positive learning environment.
  • The teacher will actively participate in faculty and grade level or department meeting, assist building efforts to plan, budget, implement, and evaluate the school’s program and to do related work as required. In carrying out these responsibilities, the teacher will follow school policy and procedures, standard practices, and approved curriculum, and will actively and positively support the school vision.
  • The teacher assists in the supervision of students at school activities and events. The teacher remains vigilant of students throughout the school day and the school location, taking the initiative to engage students when students are acting inappropriately or in an inappropriate location for the time of day.
  • The teacher will establish a professional growth plan and annually review the plan and progress with the administrator.
  • Required to follow board policies and procedures and stay abreast of updates and changes.
  • Performs all other duties assigned.
Physical requirements
  • Sitting:
    Sitting is an occasional requirement (10%).
  • Walking:
    Walking is a frequent requirement up to 90% of the time.
  • Standing:
    Standing is a frequent requirement up to 85–90% of the time.
  • Sprinting/Running:
    Sprinting or running is an occasional requirement (e.g., in case of emergency).
  • Flexibility:
    Bending or twisting at the neck, trunk, reaching above the head, reaching forward, and repetitive hand/arm/finger motions are frequent requirements (85–90%).
  • Use Of Arms & Hands:
    Manual and finger dexterity are frequent requirements (90% of the time).
  • Lifting 10 - 25 pounds:
    Frequent requirement (90% of the time) including lifting above the shoulders, waist, or knees.
  • Lifting 26 - 50 pounds:
    Frequent to occasional requirements depending on item/location (up to 50% of the time); some items may require lifting above the shoulders.
  • Lifting 50 - 75 pounds:
    Occasional but essential requirement.
  • Pushing & Pulling:
    Varies by weight category with occasional to frequent requirements up to 60% of the time.
  • Carrying:
    Carrying items weighing 25 - 50 pounds is a daily requirement.
  • Protective Equipment:
    Protective equipment may be required as necessary for eye, ear, hands, head, feet, and face protection.
