Control Room Operator – Hobbs, New Mexico
Job Summary:
As the Control Room Operator, you will join our Operations team and report to the Operations Manager. Your responsibilities include monitoring and operating power plant systems to support safe, reliable, and efficient facility operations. You will respond to alarms and abnormal conditions, support plant startup and shutdown activities as required, and collaborate with on‑site personnel to maintain operational continuity. This role may also assist with general plant operations and maintenance activities as assigned by the Plant Manager and Operations Manager.
- Lead a shift consisting of 2 other operators for the safe and efficient operations of a 2×1 combined cycle power plant.
- Conduct shift meetings and ensure completion of all shift duties.
- Resolve problems swiftly and record them in the plant CMMS.
- Review all rounds completed by other operators.
- Conduct plant startups and shutdowns and respond to abnormal plant conditions.
- Maintain compliance with Contour Global’s Health & Safety Management System.
- Ensure the daily log, efficiency reports, and other required reports are completed accurately and on time.
- Review logs and records periodically to verify tag‑out procedures, equipment status, and administrative systems are functioning effectively.
- Participate in the administrative maintenance of plant operating manuals, technical references, prints, diagrams, and preventive/predictive maintenance records.
- Support the Maintenance team by providing lock‑out/tag‑out support, equipment identification, troubleshooting, work request preparation, and electrical/mechanical maintenance as needed.
- Actively support and participate in CG Safety and Regulatory Compliance Programs.
- Complete other tasks as requested by the Operations Manager.
- Encourage team members to identify and initiate improvements that enhance safety, reliability, productivity, cost efficiency, and client service.
- Ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the area of assignment. Four (4) years of high school education is required.
- Associate Degree in a technical field is desirable.
- Experience as a Control Room Operator or equivalent position in an operating or generating plant is required.
- Experience with water chemistry control, water condition analysis, water treatment operations, and chemical‑handling requirements is desired.
- Theoretical and practical knowledge of combustion/steam turbine operations, closed‑system generation, industrial safety, hazardous waste management, and plant parameter recording is highly desirable.
- Experience using SAP or other CMMS is desired.
- Direct operation of a combined‑cycle large‑frame gas turbine power plant is preferred.
- Experience with piping and instrument schematics, process controls, and the power plant industry is desirable.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Physical requirements:
must stand for extended periods, climb stairs and ladders, and routinely lift up to 50 pounds. - Work twelve‑hour rotating shifts with potential overtime, weekend, and holiday work as required.
