Auxiliary Operator

Job Summary

The Auxiliary Operator assists in the safe and efficient operation of the Power Plant and its supporting equipment and systems. This position reports to the Operations Manager and carries out routine water/gas chemistry analysis, inspection of operating components, and reporting of plant status. The Operator also supports maintenance activities to ensure reliable operation and continuous production.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with the Contour Global Health & Safety Management System, including Permit to Work, Management of Change and Contractor Safety.
  • Coach and mentor facility employees on proper safety behaviours and active participation in safety activities such as inspections and incident investigations.
  • Verify job tasks are reviewed before work starts and when changes occur.
  • Report incidents and potential adverse events (including near‑misses) promptly to plant leadership and safety support.
  • Assist in operations of equipment, monitor operational parameters, and maintain reliability of plant systems.
  • Operate and maintain a wide variety of plant equipment, including chemical pumping systems.
  • Assist with mechanical and electrical maintenance activities, including preventive and planned maintenance.
  • Withdraw parts and supplies from inventory, complete usage reports, and assist with physical inventory.
  • Repair rotating equipment, chemical systems, and water‑processing equipment.
  • Respond to emergency operations to maintain production and safeguard equipment.
  • Support the maintenance team with lock‑out/tag‑out, equipment identification, troubleshooting, and work‑request preparation.
  • Participate in CG Safety and Regulatory Compliance Programs.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements

Standing on feet for extended periods, climbing stairs and ladders, and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds. Protective equipment such as hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, and high‑voltage protective equipment must be worn in certain duties. The position requires extended working hours, varied shifts, weekend and holiday work, and occasional on‑call status.

Qualifications and Skills
  • High‑school education or equivalent. Four (4) years of progressive work experience related to plant operation preferred.
  • Prior experience as a Power Plant Technician or equivalent role in a power plant environment.
  • Experience with high‑pressure turbines, combustion turbines, and associated equipment.
  • Experience in water chemistry control, condition analysis, water‑treatment facility operations, and chemical‑handling requirements.
  • Strong aptitude in mathematics and mechanical/electrical skills.
  • Knowledge of combustion‑turbine operations, industrial safety, hazardous waste management, and plant parameter monitoring.
  • Familiarity with piping and instrument schematics and process controls.
  • Mechanical, instrumentation, and electrical equipment knowledge.
  • Knowledge of thermal or renewable power generation cycles is desirable.
