Postdoctoral Appointee - Computational Modeling and Simulation Code Verification and VVUQ, Onsite
The Verification, Validation, and Uncertainty Quantification (VVUQ) Department seeks a Postdoctoral Computational Engineer or Computational Physicist to conduct code verification research across physics disciplines. The role includes developing verification methods, collaborating with subject matter experts, and publishing results. The position is onsite; relocation will be provided for eligible candidates.
Responsibilities- Implement and use manufactured and exact solutions for verification of computational physics codes across multiple physics disciplines.
- Develop novel or rigorous techniques to support verification efforts and modify existing codes to incorporate these capabilities.
- Document, publish, and present work both internally and externally.
- Provide assistance with other departmental focus areas.
- PhD in engineering or natural science conferred within five years of start date.
- Background in computational physics covering at least one discipline such as fluid dynamics (CFD), solid mechanics, electromagnetics (EM), heat transfer, radiation, plasma, etc.
- Background in numerical methods such as finite elements, finite differences, finite volumes, particle‑in‑cell, Monte Carlo, deterministic radiation transport, or similar PDE and integro‑PDE solvers.
- Interest in performing verification, validation, and/or uncertainty quantification.
