Position: CORE CUSTODIAN

Responsibilities

Performs housekeeping duties for the CORE. Cleans and sanitizes areas as assigned within the facility to include restrooms, locker rooms, office areas, break rooms, common areas and surfaces. Ensures that all restroom supplies are replenished. Cleans windows and walls, sweeps, mops, vacuums, shampoos and steam cleans carpets; polishes and buffs floors. Dusts furniture and wipes base boards. Empties and relines trash and garbage cans on a daily basis and more frequent as needed.

Picks up litter in and around the building and grounds area. Maintains custodial equipment. Opens and closes, locks and unlocks building facilities as needed. Performs minor repairs such as changing out light bulbs and repairs to bathroom facilities as needed. Moves and sets up furniture and equipment as needed and assigned. Sweeps or blows any debris in entrance doorways. Removes ice, snow, or any other hazards from walkways.

Acts as a backup to the CORE Custodial Supervisor in his/her absence, as assigned.

City of Hobbs Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy

This position is subject to the City of Hobbs’ Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy which includes one or more of the following: pre‑employment testing, post accident testing, random testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return to duty testing and follow‑up testing.

Education and Experience

Graduation from high school or high school equivalency preferred. One year experience in custodial work or related field required.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

Working knowledge of janitorial equipment, materials and supplies used in buildings.

Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule.

Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.

Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with CORE staff, and general public.

Licensing and Certifications

Valid state issued driver’s license preferred.

Supervision Received

Work under the general supervision of the CORE Lead Custodian, CORE Facility Maintenance Supervisor and General Services Director.

  • Work under the general supervision of the CORE Custodial Supervisor, Facility Maintenance Coordinator, and CORE Facility Maintenance Supervisor.

The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, kneel and use hands and fingers to handle feel or operate objects, tools or controls. The employee is required to climb or balance, stoop, crouch or crawl, and talk or hear.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds (must utilize team lift) or more. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in high precarious place greater than 10 feet, and is occasionally exposed to adverse weather conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration.
