Position: MEDIA SPECIALIST

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

This position works under the general direction of the City Manager within the City Manager’s Office. The Marketing Coordinator supports city-wide marketing, communications, branding, multimedia production, and public information efforts. The role works in conjunction with the Communications Department’s Marketing Coordinator and Event Coordinator with day-to-day needs and ongoing projects.

Primary responsibilities include helping develop and implement strategic marketing initiatives for all City of Hobbs departments, producing multimedia content, supporting public information duties, and contributing to major communication projects such as the City’s twice-yearly magazine publication (Spring/Summer & Fall/Winter).

This position plays a key role in expanding the organization’s use of video, podcast recording, radio advertisements, digital communication tools, and other outreach methods to improve engagement with Hobbs residents

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Assist in developing, planning, and executing comprehensive marketing and communication strategies for all City departments, facilities, programs, and events.
  • Support the production and publication of the City’s magazine (formerly “The Guide”), to be issued twice annually, including gathering content, coordinating with departments and outside entities, editing, layout review, and ensuring accuracy and consistency.
  • Contribute to multimedia content creation, including video production, podcast recording, radio ad scripting/recording, digital media pieces, and other communication platforms.
  • Assist in managing and updating City-wide digital assets, website content, visual materials, and printed promotional items.
  • Provide branding and marketing support to City departments, ensuring consistent messaging and visual identity across all platforms.
  • Participate in developing action plans and timelines for marketing campaigns, including evaluation and assessment of outreach effectiveness.
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with regional government agencies, nonprofits, community organizations, and private partners to support cooperative projects and cross-promotion.
  • Assist with Public Information Officer–related tasks within the Communications Department, such as preparing, writing, editing, and distributing press releases, public service announcements, and other external communications when needed.
  • Gather, analyze, and summarize marketing data to prepare reports and recommend improvements to communication strategies.
  • Work closely with the other Marketing Coordinator as well as the Event Coordinator on marketing and logistical support for City-sponsored events, initiatives, and community programs.
  • Ensure responsible and efficient use of allocated resources. Identify opportunities to reduce costs and increase operational efficiency.
  • Work within deadlines in a fast-paced environment, handling multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Represent the Communications Department, City Manager’s Office, and/or City of Hobbs organization at meetings or community events as assigned.
  • Position requires occasional evenings and weekends. Standard schedule is Monday–Thursday, 8 a.m.–6 p.m., and Friday 8 a.m.–12 p.m.

This position is subject to the City of Hobbs’ Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy which includes one or more of the following: pre-employment testing, post accident testing, random testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return to duty testing and follow-up testing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience
  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Advertising, Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, or a related field required; along with one (1) year of experience in Sales, Advertising, Marketing, Creative Design, Publishing, Fund Development, or…
