Archaeology Field Technician - New Mexico
True Environmental is seeking an Archaeology Field Technician to conduct archaeological fieldwork across the Western United States. This on‑call temporary position is ideal for candidates with a background in archaeology or related disciplines who enjoy field research and data collection.
Pay: $20-25/hr, based on experience.
Preferred Residence: Arizona, Texas, or New Mexico (not required).
- Conduct pedestrian surveys and collect archaeological data (GPS, photographs, site forms, site sketches, artifact sketches).
- Perform subsurface testing or artifact identification.
- Measure and fully record artifacts.
- Prepare high‑quality field notes.
- Work independently or as a team member based on project needs.
- Other duties as requested.
- Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field.
- At least 6 months of archaeological field experience or field school experience.
- Experience performing archaeological surveys and excavations.
- Ability to work in diverse and often difficult terrain, hiking 5–10 miles per day.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong teamwork and proactive project participation.
- Excellent attention to detail and note‑taking skills.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Proficiency with GPS units, USGS maps, aerial photography, and compass navigation.
- Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Commitment to company safety standards.
- Access to a laptop or computer for timesheets, expense reports, and office tasks.
- Full COVID‑19 vaccination required (with medical or religious accommodations).
- Capability to lift up to 50 pounds on occasion.
- Successful completion of a pre‑employment drug screen.
- Temporary, part‑time, non‑exempt hourly position; approximately 45–50 hours per week.
- Overnight and day travel as needed.
- Outdoor work in variable weather conditions, including inclement weather.
- Per diem typically at GSA rate, generally no less than $50 per day.
- Lodging covered by Sundance; not included in per diem.
- Some projects may require long‑term remote camping.
- Possible post‑field office work subject to project director discretion.
