Duties and Responsibilities
- Regular attendance is an essential function of the position to ensure continuity of services.
- Prepared to rescue, resuscitate, and give basic First Aid and CPR to all patrons.
- Assist in teaching swimming classes
- Check chlorine and PH levels
- Clean pool and surrounding area
- Follow acceptable guard rotation for each station
- Inspect equipment and facilities on a regular basis to ensure proper maintenance
- Public relations and providing quality customer service required.
- Enforce rules and regulations at the pool and inflatable water park and caution swimmers about unsafe swimming practices
- Swim (on the clock) at least 15 minutes uninterrupted when working public swim area.
- Operate emergency equipment and utilize First Aid supplies
- Ensure and follow opening and closing procedures
- Test, document, and report pool chemistry on a regular basis as required by the New Mexico Environment Department.
Job Requirements
- Janitorial duties (cleaning restrooms, cleaning and disinfecting decks and showers).
- Crowd control in emergency situations.
- Complete personal computer time entry accurately and timely. Ensure time is reported based on actual time worked.
- Ensure that any on-the-job injury is reported immediately and followed up with appropriate forms and actions.
- Report harassment immediately to your supervisor or Department Director.
- Must comply with Lifeguard handbook, policies and procedures.
- Adhere to Village of Ruidoso's Personnel Manual and IT Policies.
- May be required to work in other areas of the Parks & Recreation department.

- Walking on uneven and slippery surfaces.
- Maintain proper hydration and skin protection routine.
- Frequent pushing, pulling, lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds.
- Frequent squatting, bending, twisting, climbing, and kneeling.
- Climbing ladders and ascending and descending stairs.
- Inclement weather conditions and/or situations.
- Primarily works outside.
- May work a fairly irregular schedule, early mornings, long hours, weekends, evenings and holidays.
- May be called when needed.
- Noise level could be moderate to loud in work environment.
No travel required.
Minimum QualificationsMust be 16 years of age or older.
If applicable, must be able to pass criminal history checks and be able to pass a credit check and be willing to take and pass a drug/alcohol test and comply with agency "Drug Free" Policy.
Licenses and/or CertificationsMust possess a Current American Red Cross (ARC) Lifeguard, First Aid and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer Certification. If you possess a New Mexico Driver's license then you must maintain a valid New Mexico motor vehicle operator's permit of appropriate classification and endorsement as required. Must agree to maintain a satisfactory MVR and minimum requirement of insurability as required by law.
MVR background checks will be conducted by the Village.
Ability to: recognize dangerous situations in the pool area, prevent or handle emergency and potentially dangerous situations, see and observe behavior, and hear the sound of someone calling for help in a noisy environment, perform duties and adapt to flexible work schedules ad established by management, work in a stressful environment and deal effectively with stress, maintain physical condition and stamina appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include sitting, standing, walking, or swimming for extended periods of time.
