Responsible for ensuring the safety of the facility patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Regular attendance is required to perform the duties of this position.
- Recognize and respond effectively to all emergencies. Enforce all aquatic facility policies, rules and regulations.
- Participate in in-service training.
- Teach swim lessons according to a prescribed routine and curriculum.
- Test program participants for swimming skill levels; pass participants for participation in more advanced classes.
- Monitor the use of the aquatic facilities.
- Perform various miscellaneous duties such as answering phone, conducting classes, collecting fees, organizing classes and special events and maintains sanitary standards in and around aquatic facilities.
- Maintain related records for various aquatic programs.
- Assist in the maintenance of the swimming pool.

- Follow and comply with all instructions given by supervisory staff and chain of command.

- Complete job assignments in a conscientious and thorough manner.

- Listen with comprehension and communicate accurately, clearly, and concisely to facilitate an efficient operation.
- Comply with safety rules and appropriately maintain and use equipment and material.
- Maintain confidentiality of matters relating to the City at all times.
- Demonstrate self-initiative in performing routine tasks as in accordance with standard operating procedures and standard operating guidelines.

Must be at least 16 years of age by start date.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
:
- Skill in operation of listed equipment.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other agencies, participants, instructors and the general public; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to give and understand oral instructions.
- Ability to effectively teach swimming lessons; ability to effectively enforce safety and health regulations relating to an aquatics program.
Phone, cash register, various hand tools used for pool operation and maintenance and pool testing equipment.
LICENSING AND CERTIFICATIONS
- Certification in American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, First Aid and CPR; WSI is desired, but not required.
- Phone or reliable phone contact.
Work under the close supervision of the Pool Manager, Head Lifeguard, Aquatics Coordinator

PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, run, swim, sit and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate controls and reach with upper and lower body and hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to balance, stoop, kneel and crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals.
The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet while in the office and moderately loud when in the field.
