Responsible for providing aquatics learning in a safe environment.
Essential Duties- Regular attendance is required to perform the duties of this position.
- Recognize and respond effectively to all emergencies.
- Enforce all aquatic facility policies, rules and regulations.
- Plan and manage classes assigned to teach.
- Teach skills at the appropriate swimmer level.
- Test program participants for swimming skill levels; pass participants for participation in more advanced classes.
- Perform various miscellaneous duties such as answering phone and maintaining sanitary and safe standards in and around aquatic facilities.
- Respond to public inquiries about LTS programs made in person and by telephone.
- Maintain related records for LTS programs, including course record reports, time sheets, report cards and lesson plans.
- Assist in the maintenance of the swimming pool, as needed.
- Daily communication with management regarding activities at the facility.
- Maintain order, anticipate problems and take necessary steps to prevent or defuse problems in the aquatic facility.
- May work concurrently as a lifeguard at times, if needed.

- Follow and comply with all instructions given by supervisory staff and chain of command.

- Comply with safety rules and appropriately maintain and use equipment and material.
- Maintain confidentiality of matters relating to the City at all times.
- Demonstrate self-initiative in performing routine tasks as in accordance with standard operating procedures and standard operating guidelines.
- Must be at least 16 years of age by start date.
- Skill in operation of listed equipment.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other agencies, participants, instructors and the general public; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to give and understand oral instructions.
- Ability to effectively teach swimming lessons; ability to effectively enforce safety and health regulations relating to an aquatics program.
- Certification in American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, First Aid and CPR required
- WSI is desired, but not required.

The employee is frequently required to walk, run, swim, sit and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate controls and reach with upper and lower body and hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to balance, stoop, kneel and crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Work EnvironmentWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet while in the office and moderately loud when in the field.
