The Supervisor of AVID and Student Activities provides comprehensive leadership, coordination, and oversight of the district’s Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program and student activities across the district. The Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the successful implementation of AVID methodologies and college and career readiness initiatives while fostering student engagement, leadership development, academic achievement, and equitable access to rigorous educational opportunities.
This position oversees AVID programming, teacher onboarding and professional development, student mentoring initiatives, family engagement activities, extracurricular programs, student leadership opportunities, and community partnerships. The Supervisor manages all student activities across the district, including the supervision of advisors and the management of fundraising efforts.
- New Jersey Supervisor or Principal Certificate
- Master’s Degree
- Minimum five years teaching/administrative experience
- Excellent administrative and/or teaching experience working with students & families
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to motivate people
- Knowledge and understanding of curriculum development and program evaluation, child growth and development, effective instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessment and diagnosis, and research related to learning
- Exhibit a personality that demonstrates enthusiasm and interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents and the community
- Lead the implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of the district’s AVID program, ensuring fidelity to AVID principles, methodologies, and expectations.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive K-12 AVID framework that promotes college and career readiness, academic achievement, student engagement, and equitable access to advanced learning opportunities.
- Coordinate onboarding, orientation, and training for all newly assigned AVID teachers and staff.
- Organize, facilitate, and evaluate AVID professional learning opportunities, including site team meetings, workshops, instructional coaching, and participation in AVID Summer Institutes and regional training.
- Support teachers in implementing AVID instructional strategies, including WICOR, student-centered learning, and rigorous academic practices.
- Monitor AVID implementation through classroom observations, data analysis, site team reviews, and annual program evaluations, using student achievement, attendance, graduation, and college readiness data to drive continuous improvement.
- Develop, coordinate, and oversee mentoring opportunities for AVID students, establishing systems to monitor academic progress, leadership development, and college and career readiness goals.
- Coordinate college visits, career exploration opportunities, guest speakers, scholarship awareness activities, financial aid workshops, and postsecondary planning programs.
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee AVID family engagement activities, including family nights, college readiness workshops, recognition ceremonies, and informational events designed to support student success.
- Supervise and support district student activities, clubs, leadership organizations, and extracurricular programs, ensuring equitable access and meaningful participation opportunities for all students.
- Provide guidance, training, and support to student activity advisors and club sponsors regarding program implementation, budgeting, student supervision, and event planning.
- Plan and oversee student leadership events, AVID celebrations, college signing ceremonies, community service initiatives, student recognition programs, assemblies, and district-wide student activities.
