Job Description

The Assistant Director/Counselor assists with the administration of the department including developing & managing a calendar of diverse events and activities in support of the students' academic, professional and personal development, and helps facilitate a sense of community among the students and staff. This individual also has primary responsibility for the counseling and tutoring programs within the department

The Assistant Director/Counselor will
  • Serve as the primary counselor providing individual and group counseling, and other related support.
  • Manage a comprehensive tutoring program, including assessing the tutoring needs of the students and responding accordingly; recruit, hire, train, and supervise tutors.
  • Work closely with the Office of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) to enable students to receive appropriate assistance.
  • Partner with the Department Director to manage all aspects of the planning and operation of two summer programs.
  • Collaborate with student organizations, University departments and external organizations to host developmental workshops and seminars throughout the academic year.
  • Assist the Undergraduate Admissions-EOF liaison, and Assistant Director of Financial aid with select recruitment activities, and to evaluate financial eligibility of students for EOF.
  • Collaborate with Office of Undergraduate Academics and Academic Support Center to track students' academic performance and progress.
  • Complete and submit EOF annual performance report to EOF Central office.
  • Arrange and accompany EOF students to off campus events and celebrations.
  • Keep current with student development research, trends etc. and recommend/implement related initiatives.
  • Contribute to budget forecasting and planning.
  • Perform the duties of director in their absence.
  • Supervise department's graduate assistant.
  • Complete other tasks as needed.
  • Additionally, the position will require some evening and weekend hours.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and one to three years related experience; master's degree preferred.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft 365 Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.
  • Strong organizational, communication (oral and written), and technology skills.
  • Ability to multitask and use initiative effectively, and to work independently, and as part of a team.
  • Professionalism, creativity, and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Fluency in a second language (Spanish preferred) desired.

Compensation Range

In compliance with the New Jersey Wage Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $53,600.00 - $73,266.67. This range represents the University's good faith estimate of possible compensation at the time of posting. Stevens Institute of Technology determines compensation based on factors including the position's scope and responsibilities, the candidate's experience, education, skills, internal equity, market data, and organizational considerations.

The final salary will be set considering departmental budget, qualifications, and relevant credentials. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes additional forms of compensation, such as incentives, stipends, or other applicable pay components.
