What You'll Be Doing
Main Functions:
The Assistant Director has 24-hour accountability for the operational management of the Behavioral Health/Inpatient Psychiatry. Implicit in this statement is indicated managerial responsibility for the supervision, direction and support of the nursing staff in that unit to meet the needs of the Patient/Unit/Hospital. Assists the Director in planning and implementing performance improvement initiatives and data collection. Assists the Director to inform, educate and involve staff in performance improvement initiatives, monitors supply use, personnel allotment and equipment use and provides the director with pertinent information/recommendations.
- Uses productivity trends to align staffing with patient volume and budgetary constraints.
- Provides continuity of nursing leadership when the director is not present to supervise all unit staff, including nurses, nursing assistants, technicians, and unit clerks. Provides clinical leadership and maintains a professional environment.
- Aggregates and trends data to create and implement performance improvement initiatives within the department.
- Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to optimize key performance indicators and throughput metrics.
- Assists the director in counseling, corrective action, and evaluation of staff.
- Facilitates patient satisfaction via awareness of Press Ganey survey trends and leader rounding.
- Utilizes clinical knowledge and data analytics to identify opportunities to improve and redesign systems to attain safe, timely, efficient, equitable and patient-centered care.
- Reviews nursing documentation for completeness and accuracy.
- Provides education to team members related to evidence-based care and outcome improvement.
- Promotes the development of nurses as preceptors through evidence-based curriculum.
- Performs needs assessments in order to develop, design, implement and evaluate evidence-based educational materials utilizing principles of instructional design for adult learners.
- Facilitates the on-boarding of new team members, with a focus on developing the skills and promoting the autonomy of new-to-practice nurses.
- Education: Graduate from an accredited school of nursing. Baccalaureate degree required. Master of Science in Nursing preferred.
- Experience: Three to five years of clinical/leadership experience in the emergency department.

Qualification:
Current license to practice professional nursing in New Jersey. I.V. Certification per hospital Policy BLS, ACLS and PALS required.
