PrimaryFunction
The Project Superintendent directs and coordinates the activities of union and non-union workers, subcontractors and other personnel engaged in the construction of highways, runways, site development infrastructures or other heavy highway construction projects. The Project Superintendent is responsible for the overall day-to-day field operations of assigned projects, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, on schedule and in accordance with project plans, specifications and company standards.
Job Duties and Responsibilities- Plan procedures for construction on basis of starting and completion times and staffing requirements for each phase of construction
- Schedules crews and orders equipment, tools and materials to be delivered at specified times to conform to work schedules
- Schedules all subcontractor work on daily basis and for the week and communicates daily with the project manager
- Inspect work in progress to verify compliance with contract documents, agency specifications and quality control standards.
- Collaborate with Quality Control to ensure all material specifications and mixed designs are appropriate, available and approved.
- Schedules, coordinates, provides general supervision and oversight all PCI divisions (Concrete, Asphalt & Excavation) for the Project.
- Accumulates and accurately enters time and quantities on a daily basis with the assistance of the project engineer
- Coordinate with Project Managers to develop, review and adjust look-ahead schedules and daily work plans to maintain overall project timelines.
- Maintain responsibility for field cost control, including labor productivity, equipment utilization and material usage.
- Review and analyze production reports, man-hours, material quantities, and job cost data; identify trends and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Perform daily review of field documentation including timecards, daily reports, schedule updates, and related correspondence.
- Ensure compliance with all company safety policies, OSHA requirements, and applicable union work rules.
- Assist estimating and preconstruction staff with bid preparation, means and methods development, and production planning for project work.
- Coordinate construction operations with subcontractors, inspectors, and project stakeholders as required.
- Establish and maintain a professional, respectful, and performance-driven work environment.
- Promote proactive communication, collaborative problem-solving, and constructive conflict resolution.
- Conduct and/or participate in daily safety meetings, toolbox talks, pre-task planning and jobsite safety inspections.
- Accumulate and submit all project daily trucking logs and material summary tickets on a daily basis
- Provide leadership, mentoring, training, and performance oversight for Superintendents, Foremen, and supporting field staff.
- Order JULIE dig numbers and refresh numbers
- Address and resolve complaints by field personnel
- In-depth knowledge of union regulations and requirements.
- Knowledge of construction industry practices and procedures
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task across several projects
- Proficient in Outlook, Excel, Word
- Self-directed and motivated
- Demonstrated leadership skills
- Demonstrated ability to complete projects on time and on budget
- MS Project, P6, Viewpoint and HCSS Heavy Bid and Heavy Job
- Construction specifications for private, IDOT, Illinois Tollway, and FAA projects.
- Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management; minimum five years’ experience in heavy highway excavation or a combination of education and experience
