OCM Laboratory Technician – Hoffman Estates, IL

SUMMARY

Perform laboratory tests to determine chemical and physical characteristics or composition of solid, liquid, or gaseous materials for quality control, process control, or product development.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Operate laboratory equipment and instruments such as FTIRs, ICPs, balances/scales, spectrophotometers, gas chromatographs, colorimeters, and other equipment.
  • Test in-service lubricants for maintenance and reliability, analyzing wear, contamination, viscosity, density, cleanliness, and degradation by-products.
  • Record test results on standardized forms and produce test reports describing procedures used.
  • Clean and maintain laboratory equipment.
  • Calibrate laboratory instruments.
  • Prepare chemical solutions according to standard formulas.
  • Add chemicals or raw materials to process solutions or product batches to correct or establish formulations required to meet specifications.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Internships and laboratory experience considered.

Language

Skills:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; ability to speak effectively before groups of employees.

Mathematical

Skills:

Basic algebra, calculus, and trigonometry.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with diverse variables; interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Certificates, License, and Registrations: Valid driver’s license not required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Regularly required to stand; use hands to feel objects, work tools, or controls; talk or hear and smell; occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Regularly works near moving mechanical parts and explosive materials; exposure to fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, electrical shock; occasional radiation exposure; noise level usually moderate to loud.
