Job Description

Qualifications:

  • Must meet all licensure and highly qualified requirements as set forth by the Mass. Department of Education.
  • Prior work experience as a Music Teacher

Reports to: Building Principal

Job Goal: To develop in each pupil an appreciation of the art of music as part of general culture; to teach techniques of vocal and/or instrumental music expression; to discover and develop talents of pupils in the field of music; and to develop knowledge and skills in listening to and reading music.

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Knowledge of and the ability to implement the MA Music and Solo and Ensemble and Theater curriculum standards.
  • Teaches general music to middle school and music electives to high school, including harmony, appreciation, history, and ensemble.
  • Utilizes repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of students.
  • Provides opportunities for music ensembles including rock band, choir & musical productions.
  • Plans, rehearses, and directs students in musical programs for school and community.
  • Plans a balanced music program, and organizes daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.
  • Develops and refines music curriculum based on NAfME’s standards of creating, performing, and responding.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during practice, group rehearsals, and music performances.
  • Evaluates each student’s musical growth and contribution to the performance of the group that allows everyone to contribute.
  • Communicates clearly with parents and school faculty/staff on the progress of individual students.
  • Maintains care/responsibility for school-owned music, musical instruments, and equipment to prevent loss or abuse.
  • Provides individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
  • Selects and requisitions books, instructional materials, etc. and maintains required inventory.
  • Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve problems.
  • Cooperates with school administration in providing musical programs for school productions, graduation ceremonies, and civic functions.
  • Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned work day.
  • Meets professional obligations with respect to punctuality, attendance and routine duties.
  • Performance of this job will be evaluated annually, in accordance with accepted district guidelines/procedures in alignment with state mandates and expectations.

    Terms Of Employment: 182 days per year

    Job Requirements
    • MGL Chapter 459 of the Acts of 2012, An Act Relative to Background Checks. On January 10, 2013, Governor Deval Patrick signed into law H.4307, an act relative to background checks. The new law requires all newly hired employees, beginning in the  school year, to submit to state and national fingerprint‑based criminal background checks. As a new employee of the Holbrook Public Schools, you will be subject to a Massachusetts criminal background check (CORI).

      In addition, you will be required to submit to a National Criminal Background Check by fingerprint. The fee charged is $55.00 for licensed educators and $35 for all other school personnel.
    • At least 2 year(s) of relevant experience preferred.
    • Bachelor degree preferred.
    • Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
