English Teacher/Theater Director

- Passion for both ELA education and Theater
- Experienced or interested in directing plays and musical productions (previous school, community, or professional directing experience preferred).
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate required.
- Highly qualified to teach English (BA) preferred.
- Experience working with English Language Learners preferred.
- Relational skills that reach students from a diverse demographic background.
- A team player ready to learn from an expert while preparing to lead the program in the future.
- Committed to creativity, student voice, positivity, and excellence in both classroom and extracurricular settings.
- Background in stage production, choreography, vocal coaching, or tech design.
- Experience working with high school students in a theater setting.
- A growth mindset and excitement about taking on a leadership role in the arts.
- Shadow and collaborate with our current theater director and gradually take on production responsibilities, including:
- Directing fall musical productions and spring plays.
- Overseeing student tech crews and performers.
- Coordinating rehearsal schedules, set design, costumes, and more.
- Building community and student engagement in the theater program.
- Long‑term:
Oversee the theater department and three (3) annual performances. - Provide instruction to 9th‑12th grade students in a variety of courses.
- Develop positive relationships with students and parents.
- Work as a professional team member in collaboration with other secondary-level teachers and colleagues in both ELA and Fine Art.
- Reaching:
Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction. - Lifting:
Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally; this factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires the substantial use of the upper extremities and back muscles. - Fingering:
Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with whole hand or arm as in handling. - Grasping:
Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm. - Talking:
Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; those activities where detailed or important spoken instructions must be conveyed to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly. - Hearing:
Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, and having the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and making fine discriminations in sound. - Repetitive motions:
Making substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. The worker is subject to environmental conditions. - The worker should provide consistent and reliable attendance.
